Even in 2025, Internet-connected appliances is very much of a novel concept and most folks don't have that.
I only have a few smart switches/lights. It's nice to be able to shut things down automatically. But, we got ones we could run manually with existing switches, too. I don't want a smart thermostat where big energy decides to shut off my heat.
That said, as for kids, as a teacher, many teens are not as tech-saavy as people assume. Knowing how to use apps on your phone is far different from using a computer. Many are clueless.
Anyway, getting off topic, but I had to mention that.
As for this upcoming weather, it appears we are in the waffling model zone where it switches the location of the worst cold.
It needs to stick with the neutral to - PNA for once this winter.

Please let's return to discussing the weather and computer models and whether or not HockeyTx82 is going to have another chance to run a live video feed to show us a snowstorm at his house!
Well in my day, the old mets would tell us kids to get out and stick your finger in the air. If it comes in dry, it is going to snow. Go Browns!

ARCTIC COLD, SNOW, AND RUMORS OF SNOW: Not much of a break for those of us in the weather business.
The focus now shifts to the January 20-27 time frame as what looks to be the coldest air so far season will invade the contiguous U.S. A few notes...
*A cross polar flow pattern is advertised by global model ensembles. Remember, there in no skill at a specific weather forecast beyond 10 days, but we do have skill at recognizing the overall upper pattern. Air from Siberia will likely be transported over the pole and into North America.
*How cold? Nobody knows for now, but some guidance suggests temperatures 30 degrees below average for late January.
*Another winter storm? Sure, very possible as the pattern looks active. Everybody from Sponge Bob to Uncle Joe will be posting this morning's deterministic European run which shows a big snow storm here around Tuesday January 21. But, that will come and go many times over the next few days. Deterministic model output at this range means nothing for now other than gathering likes and shares on social media.
*Stick with ensemble probabilities at this range. I have attached the latest European probabilistic outlook for one inch or snow or greater through January 23.
Stay tuned for updates in coming days; the weather will be far from boring around here for the rest of the month.

Ha, yeah, but nothing for north Texas. I would be hesitant to believe any model this far out.

Nothing warms my heart more than for you to get cold and snow

At least the GFS is showing wintry precip. The location is TBD, but that's better than a dry cold unless it's record cold.

I will be happy to oblige if the weather is in my favor

Nothing warms my heart more than for you to get cold and snow. I think North Texas has more chances, but down south is tougher, so willing to give it. Stratton deserves for all his dedication!
I’ve thought about renting a snow machine and continually blowing it on his lawn for all of winter. Particularly cold and dry days.

GEFS definitely looks colder than previous runs for early next week.

Not around where I live. Many have at least one.

Shhhh.... Don't say it too loud. 57 will send reinforcements to strengthen his wall just north of the Houston metro area.

Yep. It has progressively gotten colder in the last three runs. Good sign methinks.

Any forecasts under my name are to be taken with a grain of salt. Get your best forecasts from the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center.

I don't want the pipe busting cold. Just give me 28-30F and snow...
