BIG SNOWFLAKES, finally, the warm nose is gone! Some of the flakes are about as big as quarters

ULL's are pockets of cold air above so it makes sense.

I think it was the warm air advection that was a bit stronger than expected

And just as you said that, I'm now getting giant snowflakes

Just took a walk outside in Austin. Light freezing rain is coming down and trees have a light glaze already. Sidewalk is icy, but the side street looked mostly wet. Stop sign was frozen and banging in the wind.

I imagine the bridges are terrible.

Is the batch by San Angelo the last for DFW or are we expecting more to develop and move in?

Some sleet mixing in at times with the freezing rain here in San Antonio. Accidents beginning to pile up unfortunately.

Was just about to ask about Austin. Please keep us updated on the type of precipitation y’all are getting.

:cold:

Steady freezing rain in Wylie right now for the last 20 minutes. I can hear it clearly inside. 19 outside. Kids are all hopeful for snow on top of the ice later!

Edited to say I went and walked around, it's sleet not freezing rain.

Getting some lightning detection coming out of Mexico so dynamics with this system are crazy.

I think there is more coming in behind that closer to El Paso for the last round closer to the low it sounded like earlier on here. NWS seems to indicate it would last most of the night at least, so I don't think the San Angelo batch would be it.

22° and freezing drizzle/rain in Far Northern Bexar County. Truck has ice all over it. Haven’t seen any sleet yet, but I can hear it. Slipped while walking the dog. I hope everyone down here stays off the roads. Unfortunately, that’s wishful thinking over here.

Crazy these cold temps can't produce a solid snow. I get the warm nose but holy crap this a large nose.

From inside that's what it sounds like. Went and walked around for a minute it's actually sleet.

Did the Portastorm Weather Center get the final delivery of Grey Goose? I figured it would be close. Those mets will need it

16 degrees pelting sleet and that fog/snow that nobody seems to be able to categorize. I never thought much of it but it dusted us today. Anywho, all the footprints when I was going to the wood pile are gone. So going with 2” of whatever. It’s sleet or graupel. Leaning towards graupel since it doesn’t crunch when I walk through it. Everything from here on out is pure gravy.
