Yesterday parts of the DMV reached 85F and were under tornado warnings.
Today, heavy wet anafrontal flakes are coming down.

We got to the upper 70s here yesterday and woke up to snow this morning. Even got a dusting on the grass but it didn't last long. Now the sun is out and it's windy. Gotta love March!

The Michigan Tornado was a EF-3 (Preliminary)

Preliminary data from the National Weather Service (NWS) confirms that at least four tornadoes struck southern Michigan on March 6, 2026. The most severe of these, an EF-3 tornado near Union City, is the earliest tornado of EF-3 strength or higher ever recorded in a calendar year for the state.

Historical Context
The Union City EF-3 (March 6) broke the previous record for the earliest EF-3 tornado in Michigan, which was held by a March 15, 2012, tornado near Ann Arbor. It is also the strongest tornado to strike the state since an EF-3 hit Gaylord on May 20, 2022.

So far in 2026, the number of confirmed tornadoes is 151, and that is slightly above average for the march 12th date. See graphic at first post of thread

I suspect a Day 3 Enhanced might become a Day 1 Moderate as Sunday approaches. Threat per SPC disco is strong winds on a squall line with some line embedded tornadoes. 3 km NAM shows winds gusts behind the front, not associated with storms approaching 50 knot so there will be some dynamics in play in the Lower Ohio River Valley. Those gusty winds are bringing in freezing air Sunday evening not that far behind the front.

Wow, an updated Day 4-8 outlook to expand the Day 4 enhanced has been issued. Don't see that very often

I don't think I recall seeing a day 4-8 being changed during the day...ever.

Can't tell you the last time I've been under a Day 4+ 30% probability. Shows how much confidence the SPC has in Monday being nasty around these parts
