I can understand the situation, I mean, I've seen people SLAM the stick shift into gear, trying to be a NASCAR driver, these cars aren't MADE for that kinda treatment. Now the Police Dodge Interceptors have the reinforced stick shift.
Don't know how true this is, but I've ALWAYS heard, look at the manufactured date on the car, if it's made on a Monday, don't buy it (workers are hungover), don't buy a car manufactured on a Friday (up coming weekend).....makes sense to me!

Wow, Dennis never thought of checking the manufactured date before now. Makes sense to me too.
We bought an 87 Jetta and it was a very dependable car. Ran great, we had few problems with it. Jim's brother bought one too, but a newer Jetta. Early 90s I want to say. Well, he got a lemon. It had so many problems, the list could go on. So many that Consumer Report's mentioned that year in an issue. It was when VW moved a plant from one country to another. I vaguely recall him sitting at a traffic light and the engine just fell down or out. A major bolt came loose or something. One of the few times he had to have it towed. That first year at the new plant there were many kinks to be worked out. We joked we got the last good one. But Jetta's have come back again. Enough so that I wish I had a Jetta over my lawn-mower engine of a car, a simple Honda Civic. Sure it's dependable, no problems, but I have to turn off the A/C, drop it into 4th gear and floor it to merge onto the highway. As for passing a semi? Well, it's almost Flintstone power time then......my Jetta had such power for a 4 cylinder too. Miss it to this day.
