Not sure if I will post in this forum as much as last year

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Not sure if I will post in this forum as much as last year

#1 Postby ColdFront77 » Thu Jun 10, 2004 2:16 pm

Last year, when I brought my opinions of possible tropical development in this forum, it seemed, at least, that some members took me as ignorant when it comes to tropical meteorology and meteorology in general.

I know more than some of you think I know, but at the same time wish I knew more. For some reason or another I am not getting any more complex meteorological information from many people I have met online. I can only do so much reading along with everything else I do online.... How do you all do it along with school and/or work and taking time on this board as well as other sites??

Tom, when you were posting at TWC I always listened to what you had to say. Same thing goes for here. :D

I am referring to last year, not the year before at TWC.

You were one of many that apparently did, but there were others that didn't seem to be quite as "nice," for lack of a better word.

Well then their loss if they are not nice. I better not see anyone being mean to you. Keep up the good posts Tom. I assure you all of S2K enjoys your analysis and posts about hurricanes. :D

This is my opinion about storm knowledge or lack their of. If a person knocks another because he or she doesn't know as much.. that's not right..

Everybody should be respected for their opinion.. even if it seems a little off base

It happened more in the chatroom, but still. Oh well. I thought this issue should be put on the table in general as the official Hurricane Season is here.

I wouldn't worry about it 77. Some people let their arrogance get in the way of what everyday folks can see before their own eyes. I have jumped the gun on the NHC and several "professional" mets were shooing away something even the next day only to see them reverse their predictions or tracks to something closer to what I was saying. It's the nature of the beast.

Tom and anyone else that feels this way-Do not be intimidated by those that may disagree with you or seem/be arrogant in their responses to you!! We are all here for the weather and we will all have different ideas, forecasts, analyses, etc. based on our knowledge and understanding. Remember this is also a discussion forum so there will be diagreements and forecast busts and arrogant people no matter what.

Alrighty, Linda, John, Willie, Johnathan, Steve, Bron and David.

I guess it's just me. A combination of my much much less time on this site and one person in particular apparently "rubbing me the wrong" way, set me into bringing this to the table.

Perhaps this topic will bring some light to potential situation. Apologies to all, otherwise.

Yup, for example, David here arrogantly thinks I'm stupid for living in Galveston. :)

(For clarification -- I'm kidding! David's opinion is that people should not live on barrier islands. I disagree. :) What counts is the friendship, support, and concern we all share when a storm or any other disaster threatens our area, as well as the discussions, opinions, and knowledge that is shared about those situations. Luv ya, David. )

Sure it is. However, when people annoy others, accusing them of not understanding something, in this case a tropical system moving in a certain way, etc... it is more difficult to be friendly, supportive and concerning.

And Duckie, you know that WHEN YOU GET EVACUATED you will have a place to stay no questions asked, even if you DO LIVE ON A BARRIER ISLAND!!!

All kidding aside, that is an open offer to you and any other S2K member in this area if the occasion ever arises and you don't have somewhere to go.

Same problem also

Tom, I also had same experience. However, I do NOT know much about tropical systems and found this board in an effort to learn. But I learned the hard way not to ask questions. Haven't posted since. I do however read the boards in an effort to learn as much as I can. Thank- you to everyone who does post info, as it is very interesting and helpful. But please remember, that there are folks on this board that are here to learn more and should not be criticized for asking questions. :P

For the record, it was more comments than questions.
