#1 Postby James5o4 » Tue Aug 17, 2004 2:02 am

i know that there are some very knowledgeable people here on weather. So can someone tell me what year nyc had the least amount of 90 degree days? And can it be possible that nyc doesnt have any 90 degree days in both july and august? Thanks

I think NYC has never had July and August without 90 degree days, however there weas one 90 degree day this year in June.

I should have mentioned this also...

Toronto, Canada has not even seen 1 single 90 degree day either this year.
Only 3 days recorded temperatures of over 30C...

June 8th 31.6C ( 89F)
June 9th 31.8C ( 89F)
and
July 22nd 30.5C ( 87F)

Normally, temperatures of 30C (86F) or over are recorded on 15-20 summer days.

Testimony to how cool this summer has been.

Interesting to see that Toronto, which is probably further north than we are, and relatively close (about a 3 1/2 hour drive) has had a warmer summer than we have. I wonder why that is...

where exactly are u NYSTATE?

When compared to New York City, Toronto has not been warmer though. 'cause New York City has seen 1 90 degree day..and Toronto has not.

AVERAGE HIGH TEMPS RECORDED IN 2004
Central Park

May 75F June 79F July 81F

Toronto

May 65F June 73F July 77F

But its clear both cities, and indeed many many more cities thoughout Eastern and Central Canada, and most of the Eastern 2/3 of the US has seen a cooler than normal summer season.

I am in Watertown, NY; 26 miles from the Canadian border on the eastern shores of Lake Ontario. Highest temperature recorded for ART this summer has been 86 F.

hmm...

maybe it is because Toronto has long been known to have it's own MICRO-CLIMATE, with the large city and cement buildings, the movement of millions of people and cars.
so in essence, we create our own mini-climate, even though slightly minute on a whole large scale.

it is generally thought that cities are warmer due to the heat island effect, but I'm pretty sure NYC is warmer than Toronto.

oh man...
Central Park came ever so close to that elusive 90 degree mark today...it reached 89F today (Fri Aug 20) at Central Park... but Newark reached 92F.

still no 90 degree weather at Central Park for July or August
