Yes, I think it will become a major. There are also the systems behind this one we have to watch! We definitly have a busy 2 week period ahead of us.

It is not unsual. Wire services normally publish a story whenever a cyclone forms. It's routine stuff.

Good to see them mention the eyewall cycles.

"After that...the intensification trend is leveled since at least one concentric eyewall cycle should occur in the next 72 hours due to the current small diameter eye. "

THAT is exactly why I did not expect Charley to get so strong. The eye was already so small...8 or so miles across. I was amazed to see a storm with such a small diamter eye go through an eyewall cycle like it did. Usually...6-8 miles is as small as you can get before the storm begins to fill. Charley took it down to 4 miles or so.

I still think Charley had to hit a warm water eddy for that quick increase,
particularly with its small eye structure.

Amazing how they'll pay attention after so much damage and destruction and death.

Agreed AFM. I just posted a thread about how much I like his writeups (hadn't seen this one yet).

We're on St. Maarten as well and starting to get concerned. No one else is even mentioning it. Once again the tourists will be caught unaware. So typical of a tourist destination. We see in it Fl as well but not this degree.

Let's hope she takes a jog north!

Even the NHC admits little knowledge on the intensification process.

With that said, I say cat 3 on Sunday. :grrr:
