This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

It doesnt need to turn west to hit Palm Beach County....... in its current track I would be getting hurricane force winds. If it turns west all of Palm Beach County would get hurricane force winds.

Anything is possible but I've read a lot of posts here that say hurricanes don't stop and make hard turns north, south, east, or west.

Palm Beach county is certainly still a real possibility.

Even if she follows the forcast track, shell pass quite close offshore, so the eastern part of the county would see severe weather. Only a very small shift west would be needed to put landfall in WPB.

Keep monitoring carefully.

YES -- answer to the original question.

IS IT LIKELY? Less than before, maybe.

Keep your guard up. I'm at 25 N and was ready to start taking shutters down, but I'm staying in the dark (no pun) until we get the all clear.

Question about Palm Beach County...

#7 Postby Juno Beach » Fri Sep 03, 2004 1:59 pm

...First off, I'd like to say I've been lurking for nearly a week. You all are so helpful and knowledgeable, I have to say thanks to all of you. So - THANKS!!

Now to the question:

Assuming this storm stays on course (north of us), as it passes us in the Atlantic, will I experience E and SE winds?

The reason I ask is that my house's exposure is East and South.

Major disclaimer....not a prof, nor a major academic, but experience has shown that wind directions can be deceiving.

We were in the NE quadrant of Charley within 5mi of eye.
Wind around 75-100 for 1.5hrs most damage on the South and West side of house.
Others in neighborhood had different sides.
With the potential for tornadoes, I can assume that any side is just as vulnerable as any other within the storm's "cone" of influence.

I've been praying PBC doesn't get destroyed. It will be hit with hurricane force winds ... the question is how hard. I'm hoping for 1 or 2 category.
