Hurricane Frances expected average speed & landfall time

of 5:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time....

The National Hurricane Center if forecasting Frances to move 70.8 miles in the next 12 hours. That comes out to an average speed of 5.9 mph.

This forecast track is 55 miles from the coast at Saint Lucie Inlet State Park. That puts the current landfall time at 2:20 AM Eastern Daylight Time.

The center of Hurricane Frances moved at a 322° heading between 5pm and 8 pm Eastern.

The three hour movement between these hours was 9.23 miles in slightly west of a north-northwesterly direction. This MAY change the official 11 PM forecast track.

The 8:00 PM Eastern position was 63 mile ESE of the 5:00 PM Eastern 12 hour forecast position.

The three hour position change between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM seemed dramatic, however, it was only one three hour period with a bearing over 300° versus 270°.

On radar, it looks like the eye is almost following the coast line
