SE Gulf temps/Possible Restrengthening

#1 Postby TPACane04 » Thu Sep 09, 2004 2:43 pm

I took a look at SE Gulf water temps currently, from available data buoys potentially in Ivan track off NHC forecast

All stations report bewteen 84-87F temps...plenty warm enough to sustain Cat 3 or 4 level

If we do not see a big increase in strength when Ivan emerges off North Cuba coast (if he does) it would be because of W or SW shear, not cool water...

If you are bored, go pull the North Gulf buoy reports from when Opal came ashore in Panhandle and see what the archives say the Gulf temps were..my guess would be 70's, maybe 80...without looking.
