I'm very sorry about your wingman ArizWx

I'm very afraid the other two brave young ladies in the 507th Maintainence are lost, as are those brave young men we saw paraded on Al Jazeera. By all rights, Jessica Lynch should be dead too. It's truly a miracle she's alive. I grieve for those lost American heroes that were killed....they gave their lives for their country.

I'm also very afraid for the brave young army pilot in my signature below...I want him to live, and to come home safe. I want to welcome him home, shake his hand, and thank him for his sacrifice. I'm scared to death I'll never get that chance

Perry,
Thank You so much! That means quite alot to me.As for your neighbor in Forsythe Co.,GA...he should be ashamed of his remarks, albeit I know in my heart he is a good man,and meant no intentional disrespect.
My point was simply this Perry. You meant to harm.I know you have a soft heart.I won't fault you for that.However.
We must be careful how the Military and the Media can hype and overhype
a situation that may very well in the short term and long term,be very harmful to Pfc.Lynch. Notice..I don't refer to her as 'Jessica'.She is a soldier..not a Barbiedoll. But,the unspeakable Horrors that she endured MUST be addressed in private.De programming.Debriefing.Lots of therapy.
WE many lose her to depression or worse if too many accalades are thrust upon her too soon. This is my concern.Survivor guilt is very real.
What she went through is so evil,so unthinkable,it has no place for the Talkshow Circuit rights, that I am sure the TV Media execs have already scrambled for.I shudder to think.
You meant no harm.No aplogies were needed..and I apologise if you thought I was harsh with you. That was not my intention.Feelings can and do well up at times of War and tragedy.I am no different.
I posted a thread last evening for people to participate in..for the Military Vets and those with Current Stautus or Family Members. The thread was intended to address issues just like this one.It was not taken advantage of to any extent. That is fine.Anyone may revisit at anytime that thread and comment or ask a question for those or to those that have been to hell and back.
I pray for all involved in this righteous aim of Liberation. Therefore,I vote that the new name of the Airport in Baghdad be:
'Freedom International'.
Be Well and Safe

DJ, my friend in Forsyth County is a good man...an honorable man, and a very good friend. He was taking up for me, and I appreciate him for it.

I agree about Jessica....and I call her Jessica, because I feel like she's my little sister, maybe even the daughter I never had. Her ordeal has nearly torn my heart out. I wish I could just fly to Germany, give her a big hug, and tell her everything is going to be alright....just as I would do for my sisters, or Maddie...my niece..my little angel.

Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Jessica might never be the same again...she may never walk again. I can't describe in civilized language the rage and hatred I have for those animals that hurt her. She's broken up all over...they were trying to starve her to death. We may never know some of the torture she endured....rape, electric shock, being forced to watch her friends being tortured to death.

I'm not trying to put Jessica on a pedestal; but I took her plight very personally...because she reminds me so much of Becky...her smile reminds me of my mom. I don't look at her as a soldier, but as family. When she was rescued Tuesday evening, I cried...I screamed and cheered...just as if it were one of my own sisters. Just as I grieved when I thought she was dead, I tonight hurt because I know she's hurting. She may be a brave soldier, but she's fragile...those little bones won't withstand abuse mine will. I know, because I'm a big brother. My sis was a tomboy, but I was always very careful with the rough housing...because of those little arms, those slender legs--and Becky was larger at 16 (5'5-112) than Jessica is at 19.

I agree...it's going to take a lot of therapy, grief counseling, and TLC for Jessica to be well again...a very long road to recovery. There's a reason her parents aren't in Germany tonight. She's in no condition for a family reunion...this isn't a civilian hostage "roughed up". This is a young woman tortured beyond belief, both mentally and physically. I keep hearing stories that she is in great spirits, but has given no details of how her injuries occurred. That alone scares the daylights out of me...because I know all about repressing feelings, hiding pain. I'm afraid some may be mistaking her defense mechanism as "tough as nails". I heard she didn't flinch when being slapped by an Iraqi thug....an abused child will do the same thing when slapped in the face over and over again...almost as if they are in a trance/ haze.

To know any human on earth has suffered like that makes me sick...when it's a little country girl with a pretty smile that reminds you of your sis, the feeling is total horror. I'm in agony for Jessica tonight....just as I felt my little sister's labor pains in 1995. I can't give Jessica a hug or reassurance that big brother is there, and everything will be okay. All I can do it pray

And So

#24 Postby Arizwx » Fri Apr 04, 2003 5:24 am

Where do we disagree?
I mentioned your friend an honorable man..I gave him the benefit of the doubt. However, that does not excuse his glib remarks.I am surprised you did not mention this, however,I will understand the heat of the moment. However, wrong is wrong..friend or not.I will not forget those remarks for quite sometime.Take sides if you wish. That is your choice. As an Historical point, the Civil War ended in 1865.Let's move on.
Pfc Lynch is indeed injured beyond belief. We do not disagree.
My probelm, which you did not address, was the Media...and thier propensity to exploit.I sincerly hope this will be the exception to the rule.
Perry,I have a Sister as well. Her name is Suzie. She is my big sister..albeit,she calls me her Big Brother! She went through some tough times in her life when she was younger. An abusive first husband.I was there for her.I always will be.She was also, along with my older borhter David, the only ones in my Family that knew of my signing up in the US Navy, against my Parent's wishes. It was our secret for a short time. That was long ago..and she is still a very beautiful woman, strong and well eductated..she was the first female to Graduate from the Univ of Notre Dame, when St Marys was the 'sister school' and went Co-Ed.She has a PhD from Georgetown in Political Science and Urban Planning and has her own consulting firm. She married a retired Surgeon from Philadelphia 14 yrs ago and they own a Winery in Upstate NY.They are blissfully happy!I am so pleased with her happiness. Now,she is my confidant in my recent divorce. She has been strong and supportive.I know how little girls that have had terrible experiences can and do come through to the 'other side'..being Christians,we share the love of our Lord as well.
You see Perry,we do not disagree. We just approach issues in a different way.And that is a healthy thing.
It seems you are still angry. So be it.I am not.
Take Care

No Perry,
What you say is bogus,IMO.

You know what they say about opinions, don't you haws.

I have to say, this sappy diatribe over Jessica is getting a bit much.

Talk about a sappy diatribe. Geezs. What did you just type up?

Do you believe honestly that recruiters do not have them sign a waiver?

Recruiters do not have them sign a waiver. It is done later in the process.

She is a bona fide hero.So are all that come under fire to defend our Nation.

I agree.

You have 2 Photos on your Sig line.I ask again..where is she in the headlines?Where?

Huh?? That's absurd. She is in the headlines.

Be Well and Safe

You too

CWx,
#1.)No,I don't recall what they say about opinions.Possibly you could enlighten us.I do however believe we have a right to express them respectfully. You just shared yours with us as well.BTW,it's spelled 'Hoss' in my home.
#2.)What I typed was sappy.Ok.My wingman is still MIA...since 1974.My apologies for sharing a piece of my life and Kevin's.Thank you for not mentioning your due respect for his service to our Nation.BTW, it's spelled 'Jesus' in my home.
3.)Waivers in Wartime are done when?At a later time?Wrong. When you get your orders to ship out overseas..you sign.Period.
4.)She is a Bona Fide hero.No argument here.
5.)What headlines are you seeing?Where is our Gal from Tuba City,AZ?
Huh?That is absurd.
6.)Thank You..I will.

1. "Respectfully" is the key word here. You used the term "bogus". I don't see any respect there.

2. See your own #4. I agreed with your point. In your reply here, you have left out the sentence - (So are all that come under fire to defend our Nation.)

3. You typed this in your original post- (Do you believe honestly that recruiters do not have them sign a waiver?
It spells out the dangers of Military Service.I assume she read it.)
I'm glad to see that you corrected yourself.

4. Yep!

5. Those POW's/MIA's that you speak of are in the same place in the headlines that Private Lynch was before her rescue. I hope they all return safely. Including the folks from Tube City. I think "gal" is a bit derogatory for someone in our armed forces. But, I'll assume that you meant it affectionately.

6. Great. I will too!

RP,
1.)I was using Perry's own word reference in 'Bogus'.Therefore,if I chose to reuse it in my text,it it academic and in no way disrepectful.
2.)I had no need to restate a sentence that was obvious within the text and intended meaning.
3.)I know procedure.I assumed you did as well.
4.)Obviously
5.)It is Tuba City,AZ. 'Gal' is quite common for folks from the Indian Nation in this neck of the woods...as are 'Guys' in the Military.I have seen 'Jessica' referred to a 'Little Lady'.Is that deragatory?Of course I meant it with affection,as did those using the aforementioned 'Little Lady'.
6.)I'm Glad.
7.)The subject of MIAs are never Sappy.Never.Especially when one witnessed first hand the event.'Tragic' may be more appropriate.Quite frankly,I found your dismissal of my wingman's demise to be disrespectful.
