Why is he so far north??? That makes no sense. I mean, it will come that way, but not before dealing with south and central FL first.

Why at Daytona Beach, because the track nails the entire east coast of Florida with very strong winds and devastating beach erosion given that turn to the north either just inland from the coast or paralleling along the coast. We must remember also we can't just focus on the eye or the inner core because this thing has a large wind field to begin with. We must put into consideration that large wind field since the damage swath could be very wide and severe with this system over a wide area of Florida's east coast.

This is also likely to produce major coastal flooding and beach erosion up to the Carolina coast by early in the upcoming week, which even at minimal hurrican strength can cause major problems given the huge wind field we're talking about.

Looking at the eye, which seems to be closing as of 9 PM this evening, it's as large as the damage swath from Hurricane Charley. that just puts into perspective folks how big this system is relative to size and that most areas will be impacted most likely in a moderate to severe criteria. So we gotta be careful that we don't just focus on the eye of the storm!!! That's my bottom line for you all tonight.

Jim

Daytona is absolutely NOT in the clear what so ever. It'll be interesting to see how much of that beach in Daytona gets chewed away. There's already a 6 foot cut and the entire beach is already under water and we're way way far from the worst of this thing. I'll bet it's not gonna be pretty from Florida's east coast all the way up through the Outer Banks. You'll all find out in 60-72 hours what I'm talking about when it comes to extreme beach erosion and tidal flooding. Alot of whatever beach is remaining now could be totally wiped out after this thing is all said and done!!!!

Actually, Jim's record this year has been pretty darn good. He's had a hit pretty much everywhere he's been. He's probably making up for lost time!

Given the damage from Frances, I agree with Jim... No one on the east coast of FL (Miami northward) is safe. Just because Jim Cantore is in Daytona Beach does not mean Daytona Beach is clear! I hope that people in the path of Jeanne get out of harm's way.

WAY too much cerebral effort.
The reason is that the new star--Our Girl Steph--is further South.

My brother's Coast Guard buddies have a saying: "When the Weather Channel shows up in your town, it's time to get the hell out. The hurricane's coming that way!"

I hope that's not the case with Cantore....my whole family lives down there. They got nailed by Frances. If they get Jeanne, forget it. Too small and simple of a town to recover. :(
