What may seem to you to be arbitrary and pointless rules are what have kept the Jewish people functioning throughout the ages.
Wow - I can't believe I wrote pointless - that was inappropriate.. I don't mean to belittle the Jewish faith, and pointless was the wrong word to use... My main concern was that people who had turned off their TVs yesterday afternoon when the Hurricane was 100 mph might turn them back on tonight to see a 140 mph monster... Fortunately, it has not intensified that much.
Again - "pointless" was totally inappropriate - I apologize if anyone was offended.
