A report of hail in Plant City? Any comments? Is this unusual?

Unusual but not unheard of. Recon reported hail in the eyewalls of Frances and Ivan I think.

Yes, hail in a tropical cyclone is rare because. They are warm core system; which don't support such precipitation. Cold air aloft is needed to form hailstones.

I do recall the Hurricane Hunter Aircraft reporting hail in Frances as well as Ivan.

As I mentioned when at least the report of hail in Frances... Hurricane Hugo in 1989 produced hail at the San Juan International Airport for four minutes.

Thanks for the info. The local met acted like he didn't believe the reporter at the scene.

It's mostly likely small hail though, not the really large damaging hail.

It must be small because I don't see it on the radar loop. Maybe it is some small gravel from a roof.
