Sebring took a beating Sat. night. Sustained winds in Highlands County of 94 mph and wind gusts over 100+. Tropical winds lasted until about 4 pm Sunday with gusts up until about 7 pm.
We are ok but just got lights and phones back. I have a new roof so faired ok but 11 of the 30 houses on my street will need new roofs or major reapairs. About half of the street lost screened rooms or at least the screens from them. Major, major tree losses all over town.
Water in the canal I live on is about 3-4 feet above its norm. Boat dock under water.
Daughter woke me from a nap Sun. afternoon telling me I had to get out of my bedroom NOW. Seemed my TV antenna tower might come down on my room any minute. It was leaning at about a 35 degree angle. Only thing holding it up was a limb of an ornamental fig tree that was growing up the center of the tower. Friends got it stablized and I won't have to buy a new one--thank goodness.
One odd note -- daughter was cleaning up shingles and shingle pieces from front yard and brought one in to show me. It was an almost perfect replica of the state of Florida. Needless to say we are going to frame it
Hear ye, hear ye -- I will not stay home again. Any hurrican coming my way will find me evacuated North as far as needed. I've been through my three and that is ENOUGH.
