How did you get here?

#1 Postby Amanzi » Tue Apr 08, 2003 8:32 pm

I was just wondering about how some of you came to storm2k. I know a lot came from TWC. I myself was lurking on another board and got nabbed by a "plug" from Ticka. So how did you find your way here? 8)

After what is referred to a "Bloody Wednesday" at TWC by some, and the same day that off-topic was pulled off from TWC that I decided to register here. At times during busy weather times, I post about primarily weather, but during the down times - I like to talk about other things and play some games here and there ... plus I love the PM feature as well for message sending when a private topic/question/message is needed.

I had visited here once or twice before TWC off-topic was pulled and viewed the picture gallery and looked around, but at the time, I didn't see a lot of activity, so I passed up on joining. However, since I joined, another 138 members have joined since, and I was the first one to register when off-topic was pulled at TWC. At first, I was a little disappointed at the inactivity of the weather forums, however, since then ... this board is the most active of the 3 boards I post at now and truthfully, I'm not disappointed now. I enjoy spending the spare time I have here ... and most of my posting that I do is here on Storm2K.

I came over courtesy of Skywatch_NC/Eric. He had been mentioning how nice it was here and when the exits started over at TWC, I joined. JQ, you're right. A lot of us were looking for a new home and I'm glad Storm2K would have us. It truly feels like home now!

Talk City is where the original Storm2k Chatroom was located. A lot of us were regular posters on the the GoPBI hurricane board and that was the chatroom for that board. Some of us have been together as a group since 97. We always got together at the beginning of hurricane season and then said good-bute at the end of the season. Since we decided to put up our own board and site last October, we decided to see if we couldn't keep the group together all year round! Not only did we do that but we just keep growing! WooooHooo :-) We should have a bunch of the "old" group that missed the launch of the new site show up soon.

Well, I came to the old Talkcity chatroom back in May or June 2002. I actually was referred here by Barometer Bob, who runs another message board and chatroom. He told me about how the chatroom had over 100 people one night...so I just had to see what all the fuss was about.

Think there was a Ticka connection (like the Kevin Bacon connection). Central Florida Hurricane Center; ECTWC, Barometer Bobs, Mike Bryson's page, G. Gray, Eric Blake's, but I think ticka1 sent out a message and the name stuck.

Miss Mary, Dude and Marshall - I think it started with the Lowe's storm97 message board - where they had a link to the chatroom on talkcity. We all would post and then go and chat for hours on end - Marshall is right there were many sleepless nights.

I can remember the night Floyd was making landfall we have over 100 people in the chatroom and talkcity had a limit of 100 being in the room at once and there were so many others wanting to get in - talk about chat being insane - those were the days :-).

The talkcity went under and bre and me found a new chatroom in starchat for us to use last year - that is where the idea for http://www.storm2k.org was started. With the develpment guru's of Chad and Marshall this site was started. My job if you get the site - they will come. I use my many connects to alot of the old members from gopbi to come aboard and join. Also - spammed BarometerBob's site and ECTWC site too. Tried to over a TWC but AZsnowman ruled his territory - which I can't blame him.....

Hopefully this has been a short history of how we came about here at storm2k. Mostly it was from the many nights of chatroom conversations that lead us to become good friends and wanted to bring something to the internet that everyone would love.

Anyone feel free to add or adjust my recollection.

Yup, after that *dreadful night*, some of you know of which I speak and I shall leave it at that. I saw the invite on TWC.....thought, Hmmmmm, I'll take a look and well, as they say, "The rest is history!"

One night during the year 2000 I had a dream that I was wandering in the dark during a thunderstorm. I spent the next 3 years trying to get an interpretation. After many more sleepless nights, I realized that my destiny was a place with a storm connection and a 2K connection. Finally my search ended after innumerable google searches using various permutations of these words.

If you believe that.....

Actually I'm a disgruntled WC member and found this through Streetsoldier and Widremann.

I had logged onto the weather channel as a guest late one night. I started reading the "off topic" thread there and decided against registering. Someone had posted a link to this site, I believe it was Skywatch so I followed it here. Sure am glad I did.

From the dark side...

#20 Postby azskyman » Tue Apr 08, 2003 11:12 pm

Well, in the year 2003, I came over from the dark side after and sorrowful uprising in a galaxy far far away. I was promised both life eternal and an R2 unit of my own, but never did get that in writing.

Some from the dark side made the trip before me....Miss Mary, Skywatch, Ticka, and a wookie from Pinetop AZ named azsnowman. They assured me the environment was safe...that while there were those full of pi** and vinegar on this new planet, that there were also those with warm fuzzy hearts and plenty of Krispy Kremes to go around.

So while "happily ever after" may still be out of reach, it has been a friendly place where spirits and beliefs can be tested but intent is never brutal.

Glad to be here with the likes of each of you characters and what you bring to the table.
