#1 Postby TexasStooge » Mon Nov 29, 2004 10:32 am

BRUCEVILLE-EDDY, Texas (WFAA ABC 8/AP) - A Blackhawk helicopter carrying seven soldiers from Fort Hood crashed early Monday in Central Texas, a military spokesman said.

The helicopter went down in foggy conditions near Interstate 35 just south of Waco, Fort Hood spokesman Dan Hassett said.

There was no immediate word on injuries or casualties. Hassett did not know what kind of mission the helicopter was on when it crashed.

Fort Hood officials were on their way to the scene, Hassett said.

Fox is reporting 7 soldiers killed. :(

We had a UH-60 crash here at Fort Drum in 2003, resulting in 11 deaths. The Army launched an investigation but they still haven't been able to find the cause. Looks like this crash in Texas was most likely caused by pilot error, however.

I retract my other statement; looks like it wasn't pilot error after all. The TV tower it hit was not properly lit since the lights had been knocked out by a storm earlier. That combined with the heavy fog made for a dangerous situation. Nothing really that the pilots could have done about it...
