CHRISTMAS GULF COAST SNOWS???

I am not that good at trying to figure out winter weather, especially living down in southern LA. I spend a lot more time looking at the tropics. Anyway I have been reading a lot of posts on here about the christmas snows-maybe! It seems mostly based off of the GFS models. Now aren't those the ones that everyone bashes during the tropical season saying they aren't worth SHI*?? So my question is, are they more reliable for the winter storms, and what makes a lot of people think that this event could possibly happen. If anyone could please explain I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I know someone out there with a lot more experience than me(professional or not) can help here. Are the models on to anything or just trying to make up storms out of nowhere as they do during the hurricane season??? How well do these models do for prediciting this type of weather in the deep south that happens very rarely. Opinions.

Another question...if GFS isn't that great, why does almost every met rely on it? It seems to me that it would have to be fairly decent or so many wouldn't rely on it for guidance.

The 18 UT run of the GFS has a more southern and eastward track for the December 23-26th storm with less cold air in place. This lessens the chance for significant snow throughout the southeast.

One model run does not a snow threat end ... So .. keep hoping.

The GFS is an easy target because the NWS is brave enough to post long range forecasts from it.
