Louisville radar

#1 Postby PurdueWx80 » Wed Dec 22, 2004 11:30 pm

Sorry I keep posting so much but this may turn into the most impressive winter storm ever for many areas in southern IN.

Louisville's radar shows reflectivity factor values as high as 50-55 dBz..no doubt thunder and lightning...but these aren't associated with bright banding...it's actually snow! Proof is the fact that I can't see past 1/8 to 1/4 of a mile into the valley behind the house. I'm in the triangle shaped county just WNW of Louisville and Georgetown, where my parent's house is, is just south of I-64 (E-W oriented highway through Louisville and Lexington) in the western part of that county. The yellows and oranges are over us now, with the red (50-55 dbz) heading this way. One station reported 3" per hour snowfall rates with lightning and thunder in this area on the 11 o'clock news. WOW!!!!!!!!! I'm gonna be up all night...again!

I am and I will be - although it'll be too darn cold this weekend to play.

I-64 now closed immediately west of here with 16" on the ground about 10-15 minutes down the road.

Yes... have fun. One of these days I'm going to travel to where there's a big winter storm. That's the only freaking way I can see snow in person. :grr: My luck is that the storm will hit elsewhere...
