Someone mentioned above that the map is a week's worth of weather. It's even worse than that. It's 11 days worth (Jan. 2-13). Why would CPC try to cram all of that on one map. Not only is it confusing to read, it gives those who don't understand the time period involved reason to believe that all of that is going to happen in a short period? I would think that they would issue separate maps for each system or shorter time periods.

No, no. I meant the information on their website that says they issue that map on Tuesday is outdated. This information can be found at this link

http://www.cpc.noaa.gov/products/expert_assessment/ under where it says, "Hazards Assessment".

The map you posted is certaintly NOT outdated since it was just issued this Thursday. To me, that statement on their website made it sound like they only issue that map on Tuesdays, and that is clearly not the case since they issued the map you posted on Thursday. Sorry for the confusion.

What do you expect from the CPC, after all they forecasted a warmer and dryer than normal winter for the NW and Alaska.

Well, they do sort of issue separate maps for each Temperature/Wind, Precipitation, and soil/wildfire and then combine them all into the map that was posted. This can be found here. http://www.cpc.noaa.gov/products/predic ... reats.html

However, the time period is still long like you mentioned.

I think that's too extreme.

Man, I sure do not want an ice storm. I do not want widespread power outages and trees blocking roads.

I know the phrase was worn out a century ago, but...

"you can say that again". I remember the 1997 October snowstorm that affect Omaha?Council Bluffs area and surrounding parts of Nebraska and Iowa. That was insane; yes it would be amazing if meteorogically it would happen again, and definitely fun to watch the makings of, but the aftermath...I think I will pass!

Don't think so! That map has got to be seriously wrong. I know there is no way it will even be close to snow on the 4th or 5th of January. That is only a few days away now. And there is no cold front on the horizon that I know of. It is supposed to stay in the 70's here in southeast Louisiana all week. If that was going to happen, I would pass out into a deep coma.

Sorry. Just saw the heavy snow printed right over Texas. And thought the map meant us in the deep south getting snow again. For the mid-west, yeah, they will have their heavy snow day again soon.
