Heads Up Skywatchers

As mentioned in another thread in the Global Board, the Sun has become active and the possibility exists for auroral activity the next few nights.

A CME is on its way with impact expected tomorrow shortly before sundown in the Eastern US. Severe storming (K=8) at least expected. As far as TX is concerned, you would need to be a. in the northern part of the State and b. away from any city to have a chance.

That could work out. I'm heading north tomorrow night and will be travelling through some desolate areas over some mountains. I'll pull over and take a look. Hopefully the weather cooperates. You think that there will be anything to see at Latitude 41° 30' ? Would 7:00 pm be a suitable time?

It strictly depends upon the intensity of the Goemagnetic storm. If the 3 hr ap is in the range of 100-150 then faint aurbo can easily be seen down to 40N. If it ranges from 150-250 then we are talking decent displays down to about 35N. If the field goes bonkers and hits K=9z like it did last Fall then we are talking about Aurbo visible in the Tropics. But until the impact we have no idea of what will happen. If the activity cranks up in the afternoon in the uS and it looks lke we may get a good show, I'll be posting alerts and warnings on line.

$#$$#$%% for driving too.

Ohiostorm, you're at latitude 40 to 41N depending on the part of Ohio. See Steve's reply with respect to that.

Thanks for the "Heads Up"--will watch the skies. Lately we've been lucky here...

It helps there are no lights, etc.

At least I made it back in one piece. Steady powdery snow. Slippery roads. I was lucky to see the road, let alone anything in the sky.
