Board Hacked

#1 Postby DROliver » Tue Mar 01, 2005 9:32 am

The board was hacked using an phpbb exploit.

We have removed the redirect and are in process of patching the hole(exploit)

If you downloaded that file REMOVE IT NOW!

If you downloaded the program deleting it might not be enough as the files that cause trouble are often left behind. Run a complete virus scan.

As angry as well are about this I do not believe this case can be prosecuted. Doesnt mean civil action cant be taken though. Only we gotta catch em first.

Haven't a handful other hackers been successfully prosecuted in the past?

McAfee is terrible..Over the years I have dealt with both products with many viruses..Norton wins hands down..In detecting and removal.. The better part is you don't have these version that require you to logon to the website to update the product weekly..rediculous.. The corporate editions of Mcafee are pretty good but for end users I like Norton.

As Chad said earlier. We will never ask you to download anything without advance notification. IF it does ever happen we would also host the file at S2K and not at another site. Caution is always the best choice when it comes to the internet and/or e-mail. :-)

I downloaded it this morning, but I didn't open it. I also just deleted the file from my computer and ran a virus scanner and nothing came up. Thanks for getting the board upgraded/fixed so fast, guys! :D

McAfee SUCKED! We now have Norton and we're never changing. It updates without you having to do anything as well(the virus defintions).

Hey. This is Andy, from over at the Winter Weather message board. Anyway, guess a lot of us got tricked into thinking it was actually a 'fix', when it was indeed NOT one. At any rate, my computer also has norton and also has the highest and latest firewall protection on it. -- Andy in woodinville

Yes...but theres is a minimum amount of actual monetary damages that must occur before the FBI will get involved.
