t wont get damaged this house is concrete block and adheres strictly to the building codes and is well shuttered. I would feel safe riding a Camille or Andrew like storm in here. The 2 story houses though I would be worried about as their top half is made of wood.

Look up the word "naive" in the dictionary. It has your picture....lolol

Well.. the vote is still more people would rather bring it on by a 2-1 margin..

I have to say.. Even though I went through 3 last year.. and got the crap scared out of me lol by Charley.. I would not mind seeing another 1..

These storms bring a euphoric rush that is something that can't be described. The panic, the anxiety.. but at the same time.. the wanting to see just what this monster will unleash.. and what kinda damage {or lack there of} it can produce.

I have always been a big fan of the wind.. Shoot me if you must.. but that's my view..

I can still remember a vivid image from Charley.. actually 2 that I saw...

Right before I ran into my bathroom last year.. I was looking out the front door and must have counted at least 5-10 green sparks in the distance.. Those sparks were transformers blowing and then every power line on that street was knocked over. 2 of them even CRASHED THROUGH A HOUSE

The 2nd one.. came right as Charley's eye passed over.. I snuck out the bathroom and managed to get 1 quick peek before Charley's eye wall on the opposite side passed.. Just as it passed over... this HUGE deafening gust of wind blew a tree down across the street, that was easily 25-30 feet tall..

I still think most of you who say "Bring It Own" aren't homeowners...maybe tricycle owners but not homeowners

I don't think the majority of people(who are the regulars) are ones who wouldn't want to see a hurricane in person... albeit in a safe place. I'd love too. :)

If you don't, you evacuate, it's just that simple.

TS-Cat 1-Cat 2= Bring it On! Cat 4-Cat 5=Go Away!

Cat 3= the turning point. Somewhere here the threat stops being exciting and becomes scary.

I would say even if a minimal hurricae was aiming towards metro S. Florida and there was even a remote chance of strengthening, alot would be out of here...when even a minimal hurricane encounters the Gulf stream it gets scary. A CAT 4 or 5, there should not even be a debate...I'm way out of here

I would say bring on a good thunder storm and that is about as far as I go. I own my own home and pay hefty insurance yearly to have good insurance. I also think though that if you are a home owner and you are that worried about hurricane damage you should move far away from the coast. Hurricanes are inevitable and also balance out our environment we actually need them even though they are a pain! Just my opinion.

They are just a part of nature and we do need them to keep the cycle going that's correct..

I still say Bring them on !

I ran down to the yacht club/boat launch in Diamondhead when Tropical Storm Bill hit in 2003 and took pictures. Despite having raingear on I was instantly soaked from head to toe and was basically blown back to the car once I'd turned away from the wind.

And that was just a TS. And when "Tropical Depression" Allison (yeah right, I still have a radar image somewhere of her with a distinct eye over the MS gulf coast) came through at 3 AM, I thought a nearby oak tree was about to fall on the apartment I was living in at the time.

No thank you to -removed- any size hurricane this way. I understand they happen and the risks of living on the coast, but I don't really care to be around when anything bigger/faster than a Cat 1 hits.

Well, I guess I'm in the minority (Please turn away!), but I've lived on the coast my whole life. After seeing what even "minor" hurricanes and tropical storms can do, I would prefer they just go away. Unfortunately, once a hurricane enters the Gulf of Mexico, it's pretty much certain it's going to hit somewhere. As my Daddy used to say, "The Gulf is like a bathtub: it's very warm and there's no way a storm can get out without hitting something. After all, it's not gonna back out!"
Here's hoping for a season with lots of fish! :)
