Bouy 42057 that went adrift recovered,Adrift again ( Edited)

#1 Postby cycloneye » Thu Jun 23, 2005 3:14 pm

Station 42057 broke free from its mooring and has been recovered. It will be restored to service when it can be worked into the schedule. When the date is known, it will be posted in the weekly maintenance report.

Good news that they recovered it.Now let's wait for it to be in operation again soon as the data from the western caribbean is important as the hurricane season gets into the peak.

The data would be great right now as the best looking thing in the Atlantic basin is within 100 miles of it!!!

Yeah, duct tape and bailing wire just won't cut it in the open seas.

I don't know how it was able to separate from its anchor and drift away, but if this happens when no major system has affected the buoy what would happen if a major storm like Ivan hits the buoy.

It's too bad this has been taken down. It could provide with some info on the disturbed area just off the Honduras coast.

shoot.....its "lost" again!!! In wonder if the Pirates of the Caribbean are playing tricks again??

Station 42057 went adrift on 06/29/2005 and the last report from its moored position (listed above) was at 1542Z. It is still transmitting valid observation data, which continue to be reported here, but with only this daily update of its location. The 1743Z position on 06/29/2005, is 15°01'23" N 80°08'06" W).

I'm sure it can still send/recieve data... Just not from the accurate location. =D

Ok who is the first one that's going to start plotting the buoy movement? ;-) Maybe the GFDl can be run against the projected path even...

They should spend more taxpayer dollars in keeping those buoys in their positions :D
