i've been through 7 and would gladly send one your way. please do not give such advise as some places here are already low on supplies after cindy and everyone's nerves are quite frazzled from last year's ivan and this year's arlene and cindy. if you want to see what a storm is like, checck out mark sudduth's hurricanetrack project. it would be your best bet without putting yourself in harm's way. but, please keep in mind that those of use who live down here are:
-quite storm weary already.. and it's just July (5 months to go! )
-have family and friends who will be in harm's way if/when this storm comes
-have homes and businesses that could be damaged
keep in mind, it's not just the storm itself, it's the aftermath. that is the part we dread most of all. if you don't know about storms, this is a great place to learn. just please don't make a statement such as you did that is contradictory to what officials are saying.

You lose billions of dollars because people prepare early. If no one prepared early then you wouldn't have to worry about scraps. The ideal situation would be if everyone waited until hurricane warnings to prepare that way people who need the supplies the most get it.

And your vast "experience" of having gone through many many "storms" is what qualifies you to make such a statement. Billions of dollars lost in preparations? When people are buying things they can use anyway? Please.

TROLL. Please, just put a sock in it.

EarthStormFire,

It really isnt that thrilling to be in a hurricane, it is actually nervewrecking. Then throughout the storm, if you dont evacuate to another location and miss the storm entirely, you are stuck in a building hoping and praying that a tree doesnt fall on the structure or a tornado doesnt rip it to shreds. The power goes out and you are hot and sticky.
You cant get on the computer or watch your favorite TV shows, you are glued to alittle battery operated radio that has a bunch of frightened people calling in or better yet they play piano music when they arent talking. Then the radio announcer, announces that the conditions are too dangerous for emergency personal to be out in the storm... the announcer will say.. "You are on your own out there". So when the tree falls on your house and water is rushing in during the height of the storm you have no one to call, no one can reach you. God forbid one of your family members gets injured during the roof cave in because you have no way to get them to a medical facility..... If you think this is a bunch of hype.... don't .....because it happened to me during Hurricane Georges in 1998. It is not a crime to want to experience a hurricane but it is not the smartest or safest choice either!

EarthStormFire:
1) Preparing WELL IN ADVANCE is common sense here. Trust us on this, as we've seen the empty shelves time and time again as a storm approaches. As you said, you've never experienced this. We have.
2) We ALL get excited in anticipation of these storms, so it's OK that you want to feel that. However, that excitement quickly changes to fear for most of us when we realize we really are going to be hit after all. It's a strange experience, but that's how it works.
3) Does it seem unreasonable for us to ask you to refreain from giving advice on something you have not experienced yourself? There is a lot at stake, and bad advice is dangerous. Sometimes it's better to say nothing.
4) Feel free to ask questions so you can learn, we have no problem with questions, but advice with no basis in fact is not going to be welcomed.

what is that area of convection just northeast of Dennis? Is it associated with Dennis or another tropical wave...

Dennis starting to get more organized finally on infrared... no eye showing up yet.
