DENTON, Texas - Jim and Mary Ann Doyle's log house burnt to the ground Tuesday after lightning struck the home, causing it to catch fire.
Doyle was in the shower when he heard a loud bang. He then said he got out of the shower and noticed his computer and other appliances no longer working. He said he didn't realize the house was on fire until he went outside and saw the roof engulfed in flames.
Denton County's fire marshal said a lightning strike started the fire.
"I told my wife to get out and told her to move her car out of the garage," Doyle said. "I called the fire department and went outside and the fire was coming out both ends. It looked like it hit right in the center of the house and started in the attic."
A neighbor who shot photos of the fire said it only took about five minutes for the entire house to go up in flames.
The house fire wasn't the only storm-related fire in Denton County. The fire marshal said there were at least three other grass fires in Justin, Krum and Ponder that were all started by lightning strikes.
