My nickname at work is Hurricane Queen, thus my nom de plume here. While it is not always critical for S2K to be up on my computer, I check in as often as possible on my laptop in order to inform my co-workers and supervisor of possible changes in conditions. (I personally pay for dialup on that computer.) I rarely post from work but keep informed and the information I provide is considered critical if a storm is imminent. Decisions are made based on my knowledge of what is happening in the tropics.

On the other hand I don't use the T-1 computer.

Short version. I read but rarely post and consider this part of my job as coordinator of Emergency Management.

I think as long as you are productive and honest with your employer they shouldn't have a problem especially during Hurricane season. Being able to view and get information is good and productive. Your staff wants to know that they are safe and the company cares. Before I was the boss I always possed it that way to my boss. You know safety. We were in the tallest building in Tampa. P.S. I was always productive~!

I don't think it's the Word of God, but rather your severe lack of humility.

Yes, I post from work. But everyone enjoys the maps that I make, and they always stop by the office to see "where the storm is"!

Our bosses know if it's not busy, we are all surfing...and while they don't encourage it...it doesn't bother them.

do you make or take personal calls from work, do you ever talk to co-workers about things other then work..if so you are stealing too.

I don't work neither does my wife. Neither of us have worked in 10 years I am 45 years old. The trick is to study the creator instead of the creation. You have the Word of God (Bible) study it and get your pleasure from it instead of getting pleasure from the world. That is the trick. The world it's storms and it's pleasures are all passing. :D

I don't want to come off as rude, but why are you posting here? This is a message board for hurricanes and related topics. I'm not saying it's never ok to mention something not related to that, but that's why most of us post here; we're interested in talking about the tropics.

The Savior said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness" and "Search the scriptures", but that is not a prohibition against enjoying life on earth as long as we are worshiping the Creator and giving him thanks for his gifts. The same scriptures that teach us that we should lay up treasures in heaven, avoid sin, and believe in Jesus Christ also say,

"Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion" (Ecc. 5:18)

"Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy" (I Tim. 6:17)

Again, the idea is to trust in God, because this world is, as you said, passing away, but while we're here and working, what's wrong with enjoying the creation which God has given us (Gen. 1:28)? There's no contradiction between that and studying God's Word and having your ultimate pleasure, happiness, and salvation in Christ.

This is my last point. Is it stealing from your employer if you check on Storm2k while at work? I guess that depends. If you're not getting your work done because you're goofing off, then that could be considered stealing. If you're getting all your work done and some, then where's the harm? Most employers pay you to get a job done rather than pay you to simply be at work not doing non-work related activities. It's a matter of productivity; at least, that's how I see it and that's how I live, and if I had employees, that's how I'd expect them to act. Here's a thought. When you're in the checkout line at the grocery store, is it wrong to open up that coke before you've paid if you have the intention of paying? I don't see anything wrong with it, as long as you pay when you're supposed to. Same thing with Talkin' Tropics at work; just make sure you're being productive. I WISH I had the luxury of checking Storm2K while at work. That's my two cents :)

(Takes little kickball and goes home)

Need stronger armor there, Zay-D'oh. Getting bogged down in perfection is in itself a stumbling block to the unsaved. If you bring the holier-than-thou stuff, then you are just asking for one in the chiclets.

There are PEOPLE here, so that alone makes it a worthy place for "Christians". Sorry that we didn't measure up to your perfect, straight, gold and jewel encrusted yardstick!

Hey Mods, lock this baby down! 8-)

Workers waste two hours per day surfing the net according to some survey:

Seems like that might be low. And reading about the weather is certainly not wasteful!

I'm retired now so I can surf anytime I want! :P When I was working, they usually had me so busy I didn't have time to surf. Since part of my work was outside, I did check the weather sometimes and since we were on the gulf coast (Freeport, Tx.), tropical weather got special attention.
