Wow, what a boring time!

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Wow, what a boring time!

#1 Postby ConvergenceZone » Sun Aug 07, 2005 8:39 pm

just when ya think things are going to get cooking, it looks to be the opposite. There's absolutely nothing to follow right now. Irene's not going to survive and even if it does, with it racing off to the North, not much development, and it's been the most pathetic looking store I've seen this season so far!!

Just waiting for some type of signs that things are going to get active soon, but so far, not one sign. We may have to wait for a couple of more weeks(until September) until we see anymore action from the way it's looking now.

Irene the worst looking storm so far this season??? No she was very much a tropical storm but you know t numbers don't work that good with sheared storms. In with little surface data or quickscats who could tell into this morning.

Harveys still around for another 12 hours. In also I'm watching a area near 75 west.

well, I'm just use to seeing more convection with tropical storms, and there's just not much to be had here. When it flares up and looks like it's going to get going, it dies down the next day. According to the latest discussion, they are waiting to see if the convection continues to die down before downgrading it.. To me, this looked alot better when it was a tropical wave!!

Nothing against Harvey, but I prefer to watch storms that have a chance of becoming a decent storm. It doesn't bother me if they are fish(like it does others), but as long as it's a healthy looking storm and becomes a cat 2 +. Those are the fun ones :). When they start getting caught in the rapid flow and shooting off rapidly like Harvey is, then they lose their appeal. I had a blast with Emily, that was alot of fun to track, and even better since it didn't hit any real populated areas once it came on shore in Mexico.

Yep, looks pretty pathetic right now. Will be interesting to see what the 11:00 PM update will state.

Yes... I'm the most bored I've ever been with two tropical systems active.

There's absolutely nothing to do... I've been looking at news archives all evening.

Wow... two active tropical cyclones with nine cyclones already in the books the first week of August and we're bored?!

I'd hate to see the reaction to a season like 1997. It was bad enough last year when things started off late.

If we had a season like 97, I'd be on the winter board during Hurricane season.

Trust me... 1997 was bad enough. I remember following the message boards back then... people were pulling out their hair. It would only be worse in today's age.

At least we still have a couple things going on out there. Hopefully things change toward the end of the month.

1997 was AWFUL.

That was when all I had was TWC though... it would be so much worse today with the internet.

Please stop complaining about the season being slow, being a dud, etc. This happens every season no matter what. July seems to have spoiled us too much.

This hurricane season has not been a lot of fun.......sure, plenty of storms, but Dennis was the only one I really enjoyed watching.

I hated straight-line, straight-shot Emily. I felt like I watched her for a month.

Things look to pick up in the coming weeks. More favorable conditions and ridge building in. Not that I want descrution to come to me in Florida but I want to see some action without hurt and I know thats hard. It just gets borign with nothing to track thats good.

Well, perhaps some of the boredom stems from over-anticipation. Hearing Dr Lyons on TV saying that "it looks like the conditions are ripe for it to go strong all season" and hearing them up the storm totals and getting off to an incredibly fast start. It just looked like it was going to continue that way the rest of the season without any lulls.

I'm all for fish storms as long as they aren't the wimpy fish storms :). I don't need 2, or 3 storms at a time. I'm happy with just one long tracker. That can kill what? 2 or 3 weeks??

I didn't mind Emily, only because it was a pretty long tracker with lots of fluctuations.

The thing is, alot of storms doesn't always equal a good seaon from a trackers point of view. The quality of the storms to me is more important that the quantity, and other than Dennis and Emily, not much quality action.

If I had it my way, every storm would strengthen to a cat 2 plus, but then quickly weaken right before it came on land, although I know that's not reality :).

So after Emily, there really hasn't been anything fun to track. Hopefully late August/early September will change all that

What, no big ol' house-breakers & life-takers to track? What's the deal about 1997? I'm new to this stuff, but I'm betting that it was "slow" in that there weren't any real destroyers around. Well, GOOD. And don't hit me with the usual self-righteous "Of course we don't want any bad storms coming ashore, etc" stuff - the posts I'm reading are wanting more storms and that means more chances for loss of property and life. Just look at when one isn't a land-fall threat - a bunch of complaints that "it's a FISH". Cut me a break - I want my home intact and my family alive.

You don't see me crying over the chances of a earth quake or volcano. Thats just a part of life. Hurricanes/tropical cyclones will always hit in the tropics. In its a fact of life that when you build on the coast you will get your house/stuff distoryed. I'm very sorry. But this is a tropical cyclone board in we will watch them.
