Explained a few months ago but answer is me.
Site costs money to run...alot of money. All the software used is no longer free so I pay for that too. Lost the site sponsor ad revenue in January and needed to find a new sponsor, kill the maps or ask a small amount of money for them. None were attractive options. Couldn't find a national sponsor so this seemed the best way to go.
Premium Service has enabled me to keep the site financially solvent for one more year...for which
I'm extremely grateful to those who have subscribed.
Without those kind folks, I assure you there would be no maps.
Mid-Atlantic WX.com has no ads, pop-ups, sneaky cookies, adware, spyware or crap flying across the screen. I've paid for a ton of head room so bandwidth hasn't been an issue. Sorry to say I don't have $3-4K/year floating around to throw at the site.
I am biased

but believe the site offers sufficiently more info than free maps to justify the puny investment. Would much prefer not charging but I'm committed to keeping the site current for folks in the Mid-Atlantic all year...and those interested in TCs, literally around the world, during hurricane season.
Also, over 97% of Mid-Atlantic WX.com...including all other hurricane data, graphs and maps is totally free.
Probably not what you want to hear, but that's the way it is.
Thanks.
