Now that the storm has passed. one of the network guys venturing outside in the Naples area said he saw a commercial air conditioner (the sort that sits on roofs) instead sitting in a palm tree.

Amazing what the wind will do!

I seen pretty interesting things also last year after Charley.

Cape Coral checking in.... currently wind is sustained at near 40MPH (observed by my newly installed weather station)... pressure is 986mb up from a low of 981. Peak recorded gust was 67.8 MPH, but some of the higher gusts weren't caught (sample rate too slow), I estimated several gusts at or over hurricane strength...likely 75-80 MPH. Lulls are down around 25 MPH or so.

Power was snapped on and off, but we still have power as of right now... no satellite TV (think the dish blew down..heard some banging around its general area). No phone call from my alarm company yet, so apparently my shop is still ok. More to come later....

Bob, we are getting pounded here at times from some of the gusts. I bet you are getting much stronger then us in Charlotte County.

Thanks for reporting your winds speed - I have no way of recording any.

Anyone knows if we are to experience those strong winds all day on the SW Coast, or if they should subside soon?

Just dawned on me that national media is in Everglades City. I can't begin to find the words to describe how I feel right now. Like I said, I grew up there and I still own a little house(fishing shack) there. It's really tearing my heart out to think what might happen there.......

Tiny, our thoughts are with you during this time of not knowing the extent of what to expect with your family's home (did they evac?). Please keep us updated.

Kevin, thanks soooooooooooooooooo very much for the damage update.

We are thinking of heading home from Orlando in the early morning. Do the folks at the EOC think it's a wise idea or would it be better to wait another day or at least until a better assessment of roads are available? I know there is no clear cut answer...it's just to frustrating to be here when I know so much has to be taken care of at home.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

How is everyone doing? I am thinking of y'all and can't wait to get reports!

Kevin:

I am anxious to read all you have written but just got home with very little battery power left and am on dial up. At nearly 4:00 the winds are still howling here. We had significant tree damage and lost the tiles at the end of our villa. Other than that we REALLY LUCKED OUT unlikeour friends to the south. Fortunately no storm surge to speak of here.

Will check in later after I charge this thing in the car or when we get electricity back-whichever comes first. Exhausted but gratefully safe!

Hope all here are as lucky as we were.

From Jesse Bass on how Mark Sudduth and James are doing:
Mark and James want everyone to know that they are safe in Naples, Florida. The sun has started to come out and the clean up is underway. Mark had a wind gust to 135mph on the Chevy Tahoe this morning as the backside, or western eyewall of wilma came ashore. Power is out in the area, lots of trees downed, street flooding and debris litters the roadways. Mark said you could tell that the area has not seen a major hurricane in some time as it appears that Wilma has thinned things out. If you are from the area and evacuated, please stay put until the all clear has been given and that it is now safe to return to your homes and businesses by your local officials.

Our neighborhood has several trees down. The vegetation was swinging wildly on the backside around 8am. Several tree tops snapped off, lots of branches etc. Gumbo Limbo trees down, Buttonwood too. The only remaining branches on the Norfolk Pines left from Charley's SSE wind direction were snapped off by Wilma's wicked northside return winds.

We have several hibiscus down and trees that were righted after being pushed down by Charley are back down, but in the different direction.

One condo that just finished being repaired from Charley had a broken window and visible roofing materials hanging in the trees next to it.

We had two trellises smashed out and one flashing blown off.

Think we were around 50-75mph+ on the NW side as it passed by.

Bless you all.
Hang in there, help's comin' and we'll all get it cleaned up and everyone back to comfy, soon!
Be extra careful, as the recovery process is usually more dangerous than the storm, itself.

(sitting in the dark on a wireless/generator rig)

Anyone hear from tracyswfla yet? My time is limited here, so I didn't look through all the pages here...so if anyone has a quick respose, I'll be here for a few more minutes.

Just wondering about her....
