If the NHC existed back in 1899, the San Ciriaco Hurricane that year would have had 112 advisories, not counting any special advisories. I wonder what some of the wording would have been like on the advisories past 100?

The Atlantic is going to seem weird without her. Like something is missing.

I think I've never felt like this before about a tropical cyclone but I'm gonna miss Nadine, she was a fighter and a very willful cyclone. Three times a hurricane, from tropical to subtropical to extratropical to tropical again and finally extratropical. Never ending and never forgotten Nadine.

Here is the discussion by Dr Jeff Masters about the epilog of Nadine and at what place she is now among the long last systems.

The interminable, long-lived, pesky, persistent, perpetual, never-say-day, tenacious, non-stop, I'm-not-dead-yet, Energizer-bunny-like Methuselah of Atlantic tropical cyclones, Tropical Storm Nadine, finally met its permanent doom this morning, but not before bringing tropical storm conditions to the northwest Azores Islands. Sustained winds of 43 mph, gusting to 54 mph, were recorded at Lajes at 8 am local time, as Nadine was completing its transition to an extratropical storm. Today is Nadine's 2nd death; the storm also became extratropical for just over a day on September 22. Nadine logged 21.75 days as a tropical or subtropical cyclone as of 2 am today, making it the fifth longest-lived Atlantic tropical cyclone of all-time (tropical cyclones include tropical depressions, tropical storms, and hurricanes, but not extratropical storms.) Nadine's 21.25 days as a tropical or subtropical storm make it tied with Hurricane Ginger of 1971 as the Atlantic's second longest tropical storm on record. Only the San Ciriaco Hurricane of 1899 (28 days) was longer-lived. About one-quarter of this year's total Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) in the Atlantic basin so far is due to Nadine. According to the official HURDAT Atlantic database, which goes back to 1851, here are the four previous Atlantic tropical cyclones have lasted longer than Nadine (thanks go to Brian McNoldy for these stats):

1) San Ciriaco Hurricane of 1899: 28 days
2) Ginger, 1971: 27.25 days
3) Inga, 1969: 24.75 days
4) Kyle, 2002: 22 days
5) Nadine, 2012: 21.75 days

The National Hurricane Center issued 88 advisories on Nadine, and lucky NHC hurricane specialist Lixion Avila got to write the final epitaph in today's 11 am EDT advisory: "Bye bye Nadine...what a long strange trip its been." See you again in 2018, Nadine.

Well, I sure called it. I said this morning that Nadine will be written off one advisory short of Kyle 2002. Nice try Nadine but Kyle still wins.

What I also find interesting with Nadine is that it formed right after Leslie and Michael dissipated and stayed with us until Oscar formed telling us that it wanted to stay until the next name is used then it's mission will be complete.

Is this our Nadine If you follow the LLC in satellite imagery you will see it merging with the front and moving northward and after that the occluded low forms very near where Nadine remnants should be...or may be it's just me that don't want to accept she's gone.

Maybe the Vorticity of Nadine helped kick that off, but according to the last advisory, the surface low had disappated.

"SATELLITE IMAGES AND ASCAT DATA INDICATE THAT BY 1200 UTC THIS MORNING...NADINE NO LONGER HAD A CLOSED CIRCULATION AND HAD BECOME ASSOCIATED WITH A COLD FRONT."

Well now the Atlantic is back to being extremely boring once again. Oscar what? Yeah, I see it and I still don't care.

I think that's telling about just how pathetic this hurricane season has been, even when there is an incredible feat being produced, it still doesn't top something like Kyle and only manages to tie Ginger from '71 in how long it was a TS or greater . Needed to go past 100 advisories. Waiting for the full loop now...

This was my longest system since I starting tracking the tropics and here's to a speedy recovery for Nadine!
