Just out of curiousity...............

#1 Postby NCGal » Sun Jan 11, 2004 11:07 am

Is it possible that with either of the next 2 systems that the Eastern Seaboard could see a repeat of the 1996 Blizzard???? Thnaks in advance.

NCGal,

While there is some support for something big perhaps toward the end of next weekend and strong support for at least one widespread 4"-8" (or more) snowfall in the East before the pattern breaks (probably around 1/25), particularly during the 1/15-22 timeframe, it is probably going too far to suggest a repeat of the Blizzard of 1996.

That was a remarkable storm and such storms are a rarity.

when the pattern breaks does that mean the snow will be over or will we just return to normal or will we get warm?

Greg,

I expect January to end with above normal readings. However, at first glance, I do believe this pattern change will last on the order of 7 to perhaps no more than 14 days.

Around January 23-25, I'll have a much better idea concerning February. So far, everything is working out fairly well as far as my ideas and yesterday's brief discussion are concerned so I see little need to panic over the coming pattern change that still lies well down the road.

You might also want to check out some of FLguy's posts. They offer great insights and continuing reasons for optimism for those who love winter weather.
