Fall's been missing around here too....wait, it might have arrived just today but time will tell. Our 5 day forecast shows highs in the 50s, lows in the 30s. Well, I'll just believe those temps when I feel them, that's right.

We jumped right from late Spring, into a very hot, dry Summer. Summer went right into Fall. I saw a lady shopping yesterday in short-shorts, flip flops and a tank top. As if it was July!

We finally turned our A/C off, and open windows on hot, sunny days. That's a savings......

Funny thread!

Mary

PS - our leaves are turning now, that's about the only sign of Fall. And well these cooler temps. It is in the 60s today but something tells me we'll hit upper 70s again. I just know it!

Uh David, are you serious? LOL

Yours go from green to shiveled up brown? he he

We do get vivid colors up here, gold, yellow, red, shades of brown. Depends upon the summer you have. We were in a draught so we may not see the color we usually see.

I could have raked 2 wheelbarrows full of fallen leaves but it was time to cut grass. So I mulched them up.....hours later, it rained and the wind picked up. First time in weeks we had decent rainfall. There are just as many leaves on the ground, again......

Our leaves are still mostly green and on the trees. It is very late for this. Usually we are able to rake them and make scarecrows out of them for halloween, there won't be enough this year.

We had a year like this a few years ago, and the leaves didn't come down until after the first snowfall. Then they got buried under the next snow and we had a gruesome mess to clean up in the spring.

Same here. I can't believe we still aren't getting much change in color yet, never mind falling off the trees. Usually by Halloween you have large piles of leaves all along the streets.

Perhaps with the first really cold night yesterday things will start picking up fast...

lower 40s are coming to north Houston for lows next Monday and Tuesday nights! And highs on Monday will be in the 60s, and on Tuesday they will struggle to reach 70 even with sunny skies. All of next week here looks gorgeous, there is no day where the high should be above 75 (according to this mornings NWS forecast). Fall is finally really coming to houston!

The trees are still hanging on to their leaves here, too. There has not been very much of a color change yet, but maybe that will start after we get the low of 36 on Tuesday night. Usually, I would be raking leaves by mid September. This year, there has not been enough leaves on the ground to make raking necessary.

Is this a clue to the type of winter that's coming???

Now I know you all know that it isn't cold that changes the leaves color but sunlight or the lack there of.

Finally got some cold weather today after all the record high heat recently.
Leaves here are starting to change although much more on Springfield's North than on the South mostly because they have a lot more big maples north. We have a small maple out front called October Blaze that is beautiful but it never changes until November! We always worry about frost taking the leaves off but it doesn't seem to.

Now an ice storm and leaves......ooooohhhhh that would be bad! That is how I lost a Magnolia tree but then they always have leaves. Heck ice storms suck no matter what although they can look pretty in small doses.

All of my young trees have done poorly this fall. After a summer drought, then Opehlia dropping 5 inches and high winds, then another month of no rain, then 12 inches in 3 days and no rain again fop 3 weeks: most of my trees have dropped thier brown leaves. After the bright colors of last fall, I am very dissappointed. Guess I will have to wait till next year.

From what I've read, both sunlight and temperature play a part in leaf color...
