Seven to Eight Thousand feet is a fairly high snow level for the Sierra.

80 mph winds and two feet of snow in the transpo passes around Truckee and South Lake Tahoe should not be brushed off lightly. Travellers on the way home from a long weekend at grandma's for Thanksgiving could be SOL if they did not pack their chains. Truckers know better. Reno is low but who goes to Reno if they are out that way? Up they go to check out the lake and grab some Christmas goodies at the botiques in SLT.
