#1 Postby carve » Thu Dec 01, 2005 8:45 am

I have heard so many different forecast in the last 2 days,my heads a spinning. Will we here in central ohio be affected by the storm this weekend and early next week?A local met here is saying we could get 2 to 4 inches of snow saturday night into sunday.Others are saying snow showers. Can someone give me some kind of idea of what may happen with this storm? Comments appreciated.

It's a wait and see game. But, I do think Central Ohio gets some snow...if not Saturday, definitely Sunday into Monday.

I havent heard anything either on totals. The discussion last night said that showers were expected the lower 1/3 of the Pittsburgh CWA and if a stronger secondary low formed then snow would be expected over much of the CWA. We shall see.

I live on the east side of Columbus...

From what I'm seeing on maps and forecasts and whatnot, I'd say we'll see right around two inches tomorrow night.

From what I have heard from local mets and gathered from nws discussions.... we will get 1 to 3 inches overnight tomorrow and 1 to 3 more as the second storm moves through monday or so. there is supposed to be another storm later in the week that might be bigger. mainly for the east coast if it pans out but we might get more snow from it as well.

Good! I've been scanning the whole internet for opinions on how Ohio fits into all this! Lots of east coast stuff though, which is interesting but doesn't really help with what i am looking for!

Thank you!

Problem is, when you live just by the OSU campus in Columbus and they use interstate 70 as a boundary for snow and sleet...it doesn't really help!

I suppose we will just have to wait and see. Remembering when it snowed the day before thanksgiving, had a good covering and then the warm sector came through overnight and melted the lot...official recordings are taken at 7am which meant our official snow cover ended up as 0 inches!

Learnt from that one...never go to bed thinking that the snow cover will still be there in the morning. Could that happen again?

By the way, i haven't posted in a long time, this is only my 2nd year in Ohio, (I'm from Britain really) and this autumn is turning out completly different from the last one so its like i'm having to learn how autumn weather works all over again!

The weather here in Ohio is very unpredictable. You really cant go by the last years weather to predict whats going to happen te following year. Each season is different here. Last year we were in a very wet pattern and ended up having a somewhat dry winter. This year we had a dry, hot summer so we will more then likely have a wet, cold winter this year as its already looking. Alot of the times mets use I- 70 as a boundary for winter weather. Sucks in your situation. LOL. I'm just far north of 70 that I either get womped on or completely miss the storms all together.

Thanks for your reply.

I worked out pretty quick that no 2 years are the same around here when it was the first week of October and the temperatures were still in the 80's! If i remember correctly, it was still warm last year at that time but not summerlike!

I see for here, the forecasts are nodding to an all snow event, but want to leave that chance for freezing rain/sleet in there just to cover their backs.

Good to be in the first weekend of December and looking at our 4th shot of snow already. (Something very rare for me coming from the UK). We're in that period when it doesn't matter too much if things dont work out as there is a whole winter ahead!

Come to think of it..even the UK has had a decent shot of snow already this season.

Just a lot of freezing drizzle/rain and a dusting of snow here in the end. Only the Weather Channel seemed to get this one right..everyone else was going for one to 3 inches of snow.

Never mind, at least the freezing rain gave a bit of interest. And its only the start of December. We're all ready doing far better then we were at this time last year. I'm sure there are plenty of more dissappointments to come. Though this is the great thing about the weather. Its interesting to work out why things didn't pan out the way that they were forecasted to. Looks like tis time that the cold upper air just didn't get here in time. I might be wrong and would be grateful for someone to correct me!

Lets hope we get another shot at some accumlating snow soon then!

That turned out to be a bust for most. Just a lot of freezing rain here near Cincinnati too.

I noticed some places not too far north of here were under snow advisories last night. Marion for example. So it was close for this part of Ohio.

Any reports from further north in Ohio?

This really is a tricky area of the country to make predictions for these situations!

About an inch of snow and some ice here at home but where I got stuck last night we had all ice. Not good for traveling.
