Valentine's Day Snow NTX is it possible? AGAIN?

#1 Postby ETXHAMXYL » Thu Feb 02, 2006 12:50 am

I know that accuweather with their long range forecasts change more often than a baby changes diapers, but.....

They are showing a possible snow, freezing rain, sleet event around Valentine's Day in their long range forecasts..at least this evening they show that possiblity.

It seems like NTX has had some white Valentine's Day events in the past, cant remember last year but the year before we had some snow on the ground that morning.

So what do you think? Is it looking more like it could happen?

Mets on Channel 4 have done a 360 from the other day of NO PATTERN change to possible pattern change next thursday with some cooler weather...they stayed away from saying COLD.

so would love to hear what the any NTX mets or guys up here have to say about a White SweetHeart's Day?

Should this occur, it would make the third year in a row when parts of north and central Texas experienced snow in the month of February.

I think accuweather forecasts suck...especially over the last few days. 3 days ago the extended showed highs in the mid 60s and lows in the 40s here in Houston...then yesterday it showed highs near 50 and lows near 30 with clouds and freezing rain in the extended....now today it is back to 60s and 40s. I mean 10-20 degree forecast swings are pretty big deals and I think they should start making human forecasts instead of using a model made forecast.

I agree, I dont even pay attention to accuweather any more. their snowfall total forecasts are horrid as well, oftentimes 100 miles away from where the heaviest snow is forecast to develop per HPC. Their severe weather forecasts are crappy as well. I remember back in october of 04 the models were in agreement that a storm would track into central MN with unusually moist conditions and severe weather was a good bet, but Accuweather put the severe threat way down in Kansas. Thats a pretty bad forecast, if you ask me. Theyre just to vague for me, i like to get down to the details.

Accuweather's forecasts are absolutely horrid (even more so for where I live than for other areas), but their weather headlines are usually fairly accurate and informative. It just provides a quick overview of stuff that's supposed to happen over the next week or so, and in those headlines they're usually smart enough to hold off specific snow total maps until 2 or 3 days before the storm actually happens, and they're updated every day. The actual models, however, are horrendous. They're rarely accurate, except in very general forecasts (warm, cold, wet, dry, etc)

i dont know about valentines day but the new updated Dallas-fortworth NWS station has rain changing to snow after 3 pm friday feb,10th with temeratures dropping all day and winds at 25-30 mph.... chance of precip 100 percent... hopefully the precip will be heavy .... itll probably be a heavy wetsnow if snow does fall at all..... it might be kind of interesting for North Texas tomorrow!
