October Kenosha Blizzard???

#1 Postby Ed Mahmoud » Thu Oct 16, 2008 5:54 pm

Now that I'm easing out of tropical season, and enjoying all the delights of October, like, so far, an undefeated Texas football team (not likely to last playing #11, #8 and #7 in the next month, but maybe the breaks will go their way), and knowing snow season hasn't quite started here in SE Texas, I'm warming up, or cooling down, by looking for places where I have lived and/or consumed intoxicating beverages.

Like Illinois and Wisconsin. Recruit training in Illinois, but drinking age was still 18 in Kenosha and Milwaukee in 1982 and 1983, so I have a fondness in my heart. 82-83 was actually a fairly low snowfall year, but I do remember June and July temps in excess of 100ºF while Lake Michigan still felt like ice water. Gives me appreciation for the mid 80s water at Galveston. Upper 70s now, still comfortable, except beach season has obviously ended.

GFS output suggests surface temps near 40ºF, a tad warm for snow, but I think GFS has a feature that trends it towards climatology.

Yes, high low level humidity, sub 540 dm thicknesses and sub freezing 850 mb temps on 168 hour Euro. Oh please, oh please. Not a fan of the Cubs, by any means, but now I'm sad they are eliminated because no chance of a snowed out World Series game.
