Going to be a close call for DC concerning snow amounts today/tonight. Looks as if areas S of DC will have a decent accumulation (NC/SC/S and W VA). "May" see a little over performance of a triple point Low depicted on 12Z Surface Maps from HPC...

LOW PRESSURE WILL BRING A PERIOD OF LIGHT SNOW TO NORTHERN
VIRGINIA...MUCH OF MARYLAND AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA TODAY.
SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE AROUND AN INCH THROUGH
SUNSET.

WITH SURFACE TEMPERATURES AROUND FREEZING...SNOW WILL BE ABLE TO
STICK ON SOME ROADS. THIS WILL CAUSE SLIPPERY AND POTENTIALLY
DANGEROUS TRAVEL.


IF MORE ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED THAN CURRENTLY FORECAST...THEN A
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MAY BE ISSUED

This type of system can bring an unexpected snowstorm to the Washington area - we'll see what happens tomorrow (perhaps a repeat of the 1909 Inauguration Day Washington snowstorm)...

Already the NWS has included the possibility of more than is forecast, so, we'll see...

Who was the president who decided to deliver the longest inaguration speech in history, in miserable weather (I think it was freezing rain) and died of pnemonia less than a month later?

William Henry Harrison (1841), the ninth President, died of pneumonia one month to the day after making—in the snow—the longest U.S. presidential inauguration speech on record.
