The 12z GFS is now going the euro way big time...

First the Big Plains Midwest Ohio valley Low next week...

Last night Ecmwf day 4

This mornings wave models -- the ggem and the 0z and 6z GFS had a cold front...

12z GFS now looking /showing much bigger Low
Image

at 192 hrs the 12z GFS has strong s/w entering the west coast UNDERCUTTING the west coast ridge -- note the men trough hanging over the Lower Plains

at 240 hrs -- recall the 0z had the huge 500 Low closed off over MO nonsense..... the 12z now has a s/w passing through the Mississippi valley.Of course the resiltion is soooo poor its loses the s/w but this is a bIG switch from 0z

DAY 10 sfc shows Low developing over SE states Tenn valley
Image

Day 11 the GFS develops the Low off the coast which would be a miss for everyone but This looks promising

The 12z ENSEMBLES show this feature to some degree with a large cluster now showing a MUCH bigger s/w over eastern US along with high latitude blocking....

Here is the OPerational 18z GFS which is MUCH more impressive than the 12z GFS
Image

SURFACE LOOKS GOOD.... remember its never a good sign when the 240 shows a Bomb .... b/c there is little chance of any consistency. What you want to see is each run making the event a bit bigger as we get CLOSER to the event

COO1 NO1 N02 N03 N04 and P05 are OK BUT members

n04 n05 p01 p02 p03 p04 are very impressive

Tonight's EURO has a HUGE Omega Block over the Northeast ATL as a 3 day average ... and nice confluent flow over the East ...

BIG potential, just in time for Christmas ...

NH 3 day average ...

This has been a VERY active December, and the potential for a nice event just before Christmas is something to watch closely. A lot of places in the eastern U.S. (except near the GOM) may end up with a white Christmas.
