The Virginia/North Carolina Storm Thread for Feb 17/19, 2004

#1 Postby Anonymous » Tue Feb 17, 2004 1:31 am

This will start my Virginia storm thread this morning.

It is 125am Feb 17 2004. It's 19 degrees with a dewpoint of 10 degrees with 67 percent humidity. Winds are light and variable.

This radar shows precip blossoming in the southeast.

This is something to watch throughout the coming day into tonight. Although I do not expect much of it here in Woodbridge VA, I think some folks down in the Tidewater of VA as well as in northeastern North Carolina will be clocked but good by snow with this.

I should be back here by 10 or 11 this morning.

I welcome input by everyone here!!! Please feel free to chime in!! :)

This is Jeb, reporting from Woodbridge VA here at the Jebcast Weatherplex. Stay alert in SE VA and NE NC, you folks could be in for heavy snow.

Take care, stay warm and stay safe!! Have a good night.
Over and out.

Moderate snow here...on Western BLVD across from KMart.

What is the deal with round number 2? Strength, duration, and where is it coming from? Just curious, I haven't seen any models yet...

1140am Feb 17.............................

It's 32 degrees here in Woodbridge VA with overcast skies and an 18-degree dewpoint, East winds at 7mph and pressure at 30.53 and slowly falling. I can make out an altostratus cloud deck with cirrostratus above that. Darker clouds can be seen to south-southeast.

Am expecting some flurries late this afternoon, possible light snow tonight. Maybe an inch, but I will be watching the mods AND especially the radar trends through tonight. I advise everyone in eastern and southeastern Virginia and eastern and central North Carolina to do the same through this afternoon.

When that upper-level energy hits the coast this afternoon, watch out for snow to blossom across central and eastern NC, SE Virginia tonight. Would not be overly surprised to see WS Warning criteria for those areas reached and possibly exceeded with regard to snow accumulation.

Jeb, do you see that northward tilt at the end of the radar loop? That is what we have to hope for :D

Sorry, Jeb. I just did a refresh and saw the correct loop. Now I'm trying to concentrate on that hallucination of a northward jog. Odds are against it, but you never know . . .

I just looked at the radar and it seems like the low is close to shore but has closed off yet around Myrtle Beach.. I am an amateur so I am just doing it from that and the pressure map.

There is going to be a nice swath of very heavy snow. North-South band of snow is just beginning to form. Fun for Eastern NC. Wish we could get it back WEst over the CLT Metro.

Dang RDU you got your fill Sunday, could you spare some snow down my way?

Looking at the bouy data, the one at Frying pan shoals had the greatest decrease in pressure and the winds are out of the N........ seems to be coming together or west of there.
