Re: Nor'easter to Graze Cape May to Montauk Point
Another storm, more busts, but also successes. The initial idea that the storm's signficant snowfall would miss the big cities of the East Coast worked out well.
With respect to the February 17-18, 2004 storm, my final ideas were as follows:
Babylon, NY: 2"-4" locally 6"
Baltimore: 0.5"-2.5"
Boston: An inch or less
Cape May: 2"-4" locally 6"
Danbury: Nothing more than flurries at most
Harford: Nothing more than flurries at most
Montauk Point, NY: 4"-8" locally 10"
Nantucket: 4"-8" locally 10"
New York City: 0.5"-2.5"
Newark: 0.5"-2.5"
Ocean City: 2"-4" locally 6"
Peekskill: Nothing more than flurries at most
Philadelphia: 0.5"-2.5"
Providence: 0.5"-2.5"
Richmond: 0.5"-2.5"
Salisbury: 2"-4" locally 6"
Washington, DC: 0.5"-2.5"
Wilmington, DE: 0.5"-2.5"
Worcester: Nothing more than flurries at most
Final Totals:
Babylon, NY: Trace (Bust: 2" below the range)
Baltimore: None (Bust: 0.5" below range)
Boston: Trace
Cape May: 4.1"
Danbury: None
Harford: None
Montauk Point, NY: 4.4" (nearby Southampton, but 6" at the Lighthouse where a photo was taken)
Nantucket: 8.0"
New York City: None (Bust: 0.5" below range)
Newark: None (Bust: 0.5" below range)
Ocean City: 1.7" (Bust: 0.3" below range)
Peekskill: None
Philadelphia: Trace (Bust: 0.5" below range)
Providence: 1.5"
Richmond: 1.0"
Salisbury: 2.0"
Washington, DC: None (Bust: 0.5" below range)
Wilmington, DE: None (Bust: 0.5" below range)
Worcester: None
All said, the storm passed somewhat farther to the east than I had anticipated. As a result, less snowfall than I had envisioned fell in a number of aforementioned cities. However, the busts were not large, as I had not anticipated too much snowfall anyway.
As for the upcoming weekend, I do not believe NYC southward will see any accumulating snow. Boston has a small chance of seeing some, particularly near the end of the storm, but any accumulations should be light. Appreciable accumulations are likely across upstate New York, northern New England, and parts of eastern Canada.
