Lawrence Winter Fading

#1 Postby sertorius » Thu Feb 19, 2004 9:40 pm

Hello everyone-been a while since my last post!! Well, from the looks of the long range models, winter is quickly fading away here in the central plains-our snow is gone-man it takes so much to get it here, then it goes so quickly-all that is left, is the ice on the lakes!! Got to the mid 60's here today in Lawrence and there is really no hint of a March snow maker or any really cold air on the horizon. Hey, I can't complain-we had one he.. of a 3 week run with snow and some down right cold temps. Now it is time to gear up for severe weather and then we get into the easy forecasting time: sunny, hot, humid highs in the 90's with a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms-I swear, a TV met could run that forecast every day for 2 months and be right 99 percent of the time!!! Oh well-I'll post again if anything changes or I'll post when severe weather strikes-surprised we don't have any tonight with as warm as it got and supp. to only have highs in the 40's tomorrow!! It's been a great winter for us-I hope next winter will be as good and really hope we get some rain this Spring-even with the snow, we're already almost a half inch below normal for the year!! have a great night and I'll talk to you later-to quote the infamous TUBES!!!

Well, ya never know when winter will make a return - being as we still have the whole month of March to go. Glad to see you got some wintry weather. Here's hoping for lots of precip over the next few months to try and get your area out of the drought situation.

JCT777:

Thanks-we had a few showers move through last night-hopefully this spring will be wet!! We can get snow March-in 1990 we had a 11 incher that got everyone off gaurd and in the 1920's this area had 50 inches in March!! But those are quite rare-recent climo suggests that once you get past the first week of March, it is time to start watching for severe weather and then some chilly windy days here and there. We shall see-long range models really don't look too promising for winter weather-but hey, like I said, this has been a good winter for us-we ended up with about 17-18 inches of snow-about normal and way above the past few years-with some real cold. I think the coldest was about 12 below!! Of course, this is the central plains and it can be 70 one day and a blizzard the next or even vice versa!! have a great day!!
