I have been studying the relationship between the SOI values and the warming and cooling of the Equatorial Pacific. While looking over the data I noticed that when the SOI was strongly negative the equatorial Pacific warmed, but when the SOI value returned toward 0 or positive the Pacific cooled. I had heard fom others there was a 10-20 day lag on the effects of the changes in the SOI values.I have noticed the equatorial Pacific is warming slightly, and about 15 days ago the SOI values were strongly negative. Prior to that and after 4 or 5 day of strongly negative it went positve. Before this slight warming the water was cooling off. I have noticed that the SOI values went positive so this slight warming might be temporary.
Is the any corralation between them? Here are a couple of website please look at and respond with your thoughts? Thanks...
