What was the cad event that brought the Atlanta area a bunch of ice. And what was its specs? It was in early January 2000 and was called the Y2k Icestorm I believe. Thanks to anyone who can help.

The event really didn't have a name, but was amazing nonetheless. Over here in upstate SC the event started out as snow dropping about 2 inches. Overnight the major icestorm that hit Atlanta so hard got started in earnest. This icestorm also hit NW SC, much of southern and central NC and southeast awfully hard also. The storm put between 1 and 2 million people in the dark, me for over 4 days.

You didn't see much where you live, but Monday Jan 24 2000 is one day i'll never forget. A suprise storm formed overnight that Sunday night, bringing me 12 inches of a very heavy wet snow. This snow, on top of the weekend icestorm caused many problems from my area here in SC, through the Raleigh NC area, and on up towards the DC area.

Here is a link to the event from the GSP weather office. I tried but did not find anything from ATL.

I remember Jan 25 2000 very well. The night of Jan 24 I came home from work and there was this wind blowing. I looked at the radar returns and all the precip down south was moving NORTH, not east as it had been forecast to do.

The next day we enjoyed a 12 inch snow in northern Virginia!!

WOW!! I was out digging snow all day and blasting Christian songs on my stereo!!!

Yep. I detected that at 8 PM on that night, so I quickly told that to my dad that he'd better get some firewood. He laughed and said that everyone on TV said 1" of snow. Lo and Behold, 10 PM comes, and a WSW is issued.... I like to call that storm my coup cause at school I called for a foot of snow, but I may have had a lotta luck... :D
