Here in Houston, it has stopped on my side of town for the moment with only light accumulation on cold surfaces. Looks like we will have some more swing through in the next couple of hours. Temps are holding in the 30º to 32º throughout the Metro area.

What an amazing site on radar across S and SE TX into LA. Looks to be a significant snowband setting up from near Laredo to S of San Antonio to Victoria to Houston to Beaumont to Baton Rouge.

After looking at sat. loops and the radar, I'm pretty confident we'll see something later today, maybe even enough to make a snowball. There's alot of moisture still out in the gulf streaming up this way and the radar echoes are increasing west of Houston as well. BTW, temp has fallen back to 27 degrees, incredible!

For all you folks wondering what that is across SE Texas, it is likely CSI bands which are moving northeast parallel to the thermal wind.

The thermal wind blows parallel to the 1000-500mb thickness field so we can use that as a tool to assess whether or not the bands are the result of CSI or another convective process.

I assume this is a CSI band north of Lake Charles stretching to north of Lafayette. It's showing a little progression southward also. Maybe it will give us some flakes in a little while.

A small burst of activity NNW of Lafayette. There was a spot of orange there for a while on the IR, now the 1 hour storm total shows .1 inch of precip.

Worse than sleet pellets - you went to the MALL, this morning, Kathy? That's enough to make me shiver! I ran to Columbia to pick
up some forms at the office, then, ran to the bank - the traffic
was backed up all the way to the mall, and, people were
being obnoxious and blowing their impatient little horns!
I headed south, in a hurry!

Wal-Mart's less than a half mile from here and the parking lot has been FULL all day. I've NEVER seen it full before(HUGE parking lot).

I shudder to see the malls in the big cities!

You couldn't pay me money to go CLOSE to any of them.

yes our walmart here has also been packed....we live in a very small town and i was walking through there literally wondering where all these people came from...there is no way they could all be from my immediate area

Well, we've had snow off and on today, mostly light but it has been moderate I'd say at times. It was all in my hair, on my jacket, on my gloves and though there's no major accumulation, it did stick and accumulated a little on roofs and many other surfaces. The coolest thing I saw was when I was driving in the snow and it was blowing all over the road, like a puffy white powder skirting all over the road. It really looked awesome! Those in the north may find it silly, but even though I didn't get enough to build a snowman, it's the most snow we've had since 1989. I did, however, get enough to make snowballs, very small ones. Enough to get some people in the face. hehe

I was going to spend my day baking but I spent it outside instead.


It looks like more is on the way too. I hope it's the heavier stuff.
