NWS Mobile update... a surprise?

#1 Postby Brent » Fri Dec 24, 2004 11:23 pm

.SHORT TERM UPDATE...WATCHING WITH DEEP INTEREST THE SATELLITE
AND RADAR TRENDS WITH THE DEVELOPING AREA OF LOW PRESSURE OVER SOUTH
TEXAS AND THE NORTHWESTERN GULFMEX TONIGHT. NEW ETA CAME IN A LITTLE
FURTHER NORTH WITH THE EASTWARD TRACK OF THE UPPER LOW...AND THE
THICKNESS VALUES ARE NOW BEING FORECASTED A LITTLE LOWER TOMORROW
(ALTHO STILL ABOVE CRITICAL VALUES FOR SIGNIFICANT WIDESPREAD FROZEN
STUFF).

LATEST AVAILABLE GUIDANCE FROM THE ETA AND THE RUC INDICATES MAIN
AREA OF PRECIPITATION WILL STILL SKIRT OUR SOUTHERN ZONES AND
OFFSHORE THROUGH LATE TOMORROW AS THE LOW MOVES OUT TO THE EAST.
SATELLITE TRENDS THOUGH ARE (AT FIRST) A BIT DISCONCERTING WITH THE
COOLING CLOUD-TOPS ALONG THE TEXAS COAST EAST/NORTHEAST OF THE
INFLECTION...(AND LIGHTNING JUST OFFSHORE). ADMITTEDLY...WE WOULD
BE LYING TO YOU IF WE SAID THERE WAS NO POTENTIAL FOR A
SURPRISE IN THIS SCENARIO. WHILE NOTHING IS CERTAIN...UPPER LOWS
PASSING OVER ATTENDANT COLD AIR-MASSES DOWN HERE CAN PRESENT
SURPRISES. THIS WILL HAVE TO BE MONITORED VERY CLOSELY AS THINGS TO
THE WEST DEVELOP FURTHER IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS.

WE WILL KEEP THE TRIGGER FINGER IN CHECK AND WILL HOLD OFF ON A
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR NOW...ALTHOUGH WE WOULDN'T BE SHOCKED TO
SEE THE NEED FOR A QUICK WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY LATER ON DURING THE
MID-SHIFT IN THE SOUTHWESTERN FORECAST AREA (WHERE DEWPOINTS ARE
RUNNING A GOOD BIT LOWER).

Thanks, but I'm not in MOB's coverage area. I'm in the BMX NWS area on the Georgia line. 10-20% chance of a rain/snow mix after midnight tomorrow night. Not much, but, that's how this started off. :)

I'm just the other side east of the AL/GA line...three counties in GA from Ranburne, AL.

Funny, wouldn't it be something if we woke up to snow tomorow? Well, a girl can dream anyway. :D

Well, looks like Santa needs a hand, so I've gotta run...keep us all posted about N/Cent. AL and GA. ;)
