Here we go, baby!

Temperatures have just fallen to freezing and very heavy precipitation is on our doorstep.

The weather observed at LAFAYETTE, IN (KLAF) at 09:54 AM EST was:
The skies were cloudy.
The weather reported was light freezing rain and fog.
Temperature: 32F ( 0C) Dewpoint: 31F ( -1C) Relative Humidity: 96%
Winds from the E (090 degs) at 18 mph.
Pressure: 1019.8 millibars. Altimeter:30.10 inches of mercury.
The prevailing visibility was 1.75 miles.
There was 0.02 inches of precipitation in the past 6 hours.

If temps manage to stay at or just below freezing all day, given the amount of precip forecast (and expected by me), we may see near an inch of glaze by tomorrow morning on any raised/exposed surface (i.e. bridges, trees, power lines, etc.). There will probably be less on roadways given minimal surface temperatures and the salting of most paved surfaces - after sunset the roads should become extremely treacherous as a second round of freezing rain makes it's way across the area between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. The county highway department is right next to the apt here and I can hear the trucks beeping away! Looks like a great day to stay in, watch movies, eat junk food!

Close to 1/4" ice on trees now with heavy freezing rain falling. The ground is mostly just wet - but this will be dangerous after dark. Tree limbs are dangling several feet lower than usual, and the power line out back is also at least a foot lower than normal. Guess I better enjoy power while we have it.

I have the same conditions now over here SW of Ft. Wayne. I seem to be getting about a half/half mix of zr/sleet. I still have power, but for how long? The freezing rain/sleet band is just sitting over my area. Looks like it is going to be major ice here.

My weather station at 1:00-
Temp: 30
Dewpoint: 27
.30 inch of preciptation (although all may not be melting)
Winds: NE at 10 with gusts to 23

Those winds will be the killer with a little more ice accumulation. Keep me posted on your conditions, Purdue.
