Carolinas are due for a good snowstorm!

#1 Postby DLI2k5 » Sun Jan 16, 2005 1:39 pm

But from what i've seen with the models recently, things aren't looking good for the Carolinas! Well, NC i think is in better shape than i am here in SC. Are the temps looking to warm for us down here and favor more rain or ice than snow, sure looks that way! Someone give me there intake on what they think will happen for us folks down here!

The Carolinas look pretty cold this entire week...850 mb heights are at -12C for a majority of the week. Will you see any snow? Probably, but it's no gaurantee.

The next 10 days look very encouraging for snow in the Carolinas. I will go out on a limb and say that this may be the best period of the entire winter for the Southern Middle Atlantic in general. There is a clipper in the makings for Wedesday, which looks moisture-starved, but would produce all snow if any precip fell. The UKMET is really gone bonkers with it, showing a good storm from greensboro and especially farther northeast. SC looks a bit far south for anything useful from this clipper. However, next weekend (1/22,1/23), all models and teleconnections agree on the potential for a very good southern storm from about Atlanta to Columbia to Myrtle Beach northward. A strong clipper will likely transfer energy to the coast, intensify and go out to sea close enough to give a good thumping to the Carolina piedmont, yet keep the precip frozen or freezing, thanks to a 1034 mb High produced from a good confluence zone. Still, 7 days away, can only wait and see.

I agree that everything seems to be looking good for a snow event this weekend, but right now it's still a bit of a wait and see.

I have my first web design class next Saturday morning at 8:30 AM (at Wake Tech) so odds are that it will snow either before I have to go to the class or while I am there (Murphy's Law sort of thing) :D
