southern plains areas from wichita ks. okla cit tulsa abilene amarillo to dallas its extremely unpredictable as i recall dec 22 they said there would be a few flurries on all the weather broadcasts a day before the storm then we got up to 6 inches in some areas and on feb 1 they had a winter storm watch up they saud therd be 1-4 inches and we got rain and a little sleet and wet snow mixed in but it did not accumulatetemps were in the mid to upper 30s the forecasters are always off. i like it though. from southern kansa to north tx it can be in the 80s one day and 25 and snowing the next ive lived in okc and amarillo. amarillo in the texas panhandle was a trip the elevation is 3600 ft. almost like denver they average 25-30 inches of snow a yr. and i loved it i might moved back it snowed well into march efven once in april i even saw thunder snow there. the winter in amarillo was like pittsburgh pa. just about maybe worse cuz it snowed in well into march in april i live in pittsburgh when i was youger. i lived in south tx for a yr. and i hated . way too warm. houston was depresingly mild although south of sangelo waco and texarcana winter weather is rare. the worst ice snow event in dallas i saw was in thanksgiving 93! wow! it wasnt even winter yet and there was 2 inches of ice on the roads and 3-4 inches of snow i was ice skating on the streets i couldnt believe remember when miami played dallas at texas stadium in irving texas in the snow and leon lett slipped in the snow and blew the game for the cowboys that was the craziest storm ive seen around here it was 80 the day before and like 25 with ice and snow on thanksgiving and i was ice skating on the streets ive never seen anything like that! ever!! i guess a cold low pressure system from the new mexico mountains hit us or something????? anybody else have any crazy weather stories from around north texas or the southern plains?

Ive lived all my 40 years here in ETX. Im 75miles se of Dallas. Ive got a few stories to tell.
Back in the late 60's and 70's it was not unusual for snow in Nov. in fact nov.13 was the earliest snow I can remember and it was a surprise snow. We also had many snows in March and big bad ice storms usually on Jan.1st 78.
In 82 of Jan we had a 10 inch snow and the whole town shut down because each day the snow pack would melt and refreeze at night. I also remember Dec.83 was a bad time and we had some snows late 80's. but the 90's and up until now seems warmer with less snows. In fact I remember we always get 3-6 inch snows but to get a 3 inch snow now is rare and so are ice storms. The last 3 inch was valentines 04 and it melted soon after.
The strangest snow I remember was in the late 70s. I was about 11 and we had a small snow one day and the next day they were predicting a major heavy snow. I woke up and the sky was clear and it melted the snow and made it up to the 70's. No clouds in the sky. Went shopping with my mom and everyone was rushing around buying bread and milk and all. I laughed and said how crazy? it was warm and clear. We got home and I took a long nap and when I woke up later that afternoon there was 3 inches of snow and it was 28 degrees out. WE got about 6 inches of snow and it was 8 degress by night. Talk about a blue northerner. Freaked me out as a kid but got me interested in weather.
