As of now, 6 to 10 for Pittsburgh area forecasted........

#1 Postby BlizzzardMan » Mon Feb 28, 2005 11:51 am

It's snowing here in the Pittsburgh area although right now the snow is having a little trouble accumulating since it is such a wet snow coming down and temps are right around freezing. Have about a half inch to an inch of slushy snow on the grass currently. I'm sure that will change as it gets colder this afternoon and the snow picks up in intensity. I said yesterday we'd probably get about 6 to 10 and the NWS agrees, as of now anyway. Keep it coming!

We have almost 2 inches already just on grassy surfaces. Roads remain just wet with some slushy spots. It will change once the temps drop and the sun goes down. Forecast still 4 to 8 inches.

I'm thinking we'll see about 4 to 8 here as well since the snow didnt start really accumulating until early afternoon. Unless it picks up a lot tonight. They're still calling for 6 to 10 here though. Coming down pretty hard as of now. VERY wet snow too.

Look to your west young man. Still have a lot of snow to go till you are through. Talking with Ohiostorm I was telling him 8" appeared to be a good guess and possibly even 10". Looking at the radar now I will stick with that since it is snowing all the way to Iowa and all of that has to wrap in at some point. And yes I know about dry slots, especially in your area since Luke and I talk almost everyday. With night coming on most of the the rain to the west will turn to snow.

Yes, Luke and I have talked about those dreaded dry slots too, but I've noticed with this system that any dry slots that have been forming have filled in rather quickly, so far. And more and more snow keeps developing with the midwest system that has to eventually come east. I just had the local TV mets on and they are trying to say a total of 3 to 6 here now. These local guys always have to give totals a lot lower than what the NWS gives. Never fails. If we end up with 6 on the ground by morning, with more to come, they'll change their minds yet again and pretend like the viewers have a short term memory and forgot about their previous forecasts.

We have 4" now and they r still calling for 2 to 4 overnight and a few more tomorrow i believe. Local tv stations saying 1 to 2 more over night and 1 to 3 tomorrow. We will see.
